Beats me. Presumably they're operating on the hidden cost principle - looks cheap up front, until you have to claim. Maybe there's been a rash of dropped-bike claims.
You may be able to get insurance for your excess. A mate did this - paid £30 to the insurer which covered the £300 excess of the underwriter, then claimed on his fully comp for damage caused by dropping his bike (3 times )
Got his bike back to mint effectively for £30 plus whatever he gets stung with in future years for claiming. Personally I think that'll end up costing him way more than it would have cost to buy the parts and sort it himself, but each to their own. |
