If you could get aboard a small boat to france you'd be on the continent without any record of leaving the UK.

When I visited france on a sailing trip, we just moored and walked off the jetty down into Cherbourg with no customs/passport.

Once in the EU travel without a passport is pretty free and easy...

Your licence plate would be picked up by CCTV all over the continent.

What would you do for cash?

One guy did it for telly, he tried hiding for 30 days, iirc, but was found before the time was up.

Edit: this is it, Erasing David. Hetz, you may want not to click the link to avoid apoplexy.

In theory its really simple assuming you have enough cash. Get on a boat, travel to another port, buy transport, with cash, continue to travel and hope you never get stopped.

The important part is never to register for anything traceable. No banks, licence, work, nothing.

Reckon you could make it to here?

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Fort+de+Nogent,+Fontenay-sous-Bois,+France&sll=48.84524,2.478884&sspn=0.001087,0.00284&gl=uk&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Fort+de+Nogent,+94120+Fontenay-sous-Bois,+Val-de-Marne,+Ile-de-France,+France&ll=48.844709,2.480518&spn=0.001087,0.00284&t=h&z=19&layer=c&cbll=48.844709,2.480515&panoid=Xtlzjis3vfcPfm-Mka8pFQ&cbp=12,79.71,,0,5

The answer lies beyond those gates.

Found this on that erasing david site.

Pretty much some dude who claims to have been put sectioned and abused by the government due to his political beliefs.

I haven't ead the whole thing but if a small part is true it would be worrying, yet not suprising.

The world is a small place these days. As far as the 'off the radar' comment is concerned it depends on what sort of radar you wish to be off! If it's a crime one then, possible but unlikely. If it's just a family and new life, then you'd be ok - as an adult, you can 'disappear' without telling anyone where you're off to. Even if your family register you as a missing person the Police will only investigate if there is a suspected crime.

You can work in Europe without any bother, elsewhere probably ok to get by for cash. If you go somewhere where there is no need for a roof over your head because it's warm it'll be cheaper to live. Other than that you'll need to hope you don't get poorly!

Sorted Thumbs Up

With £10,000 you could plan a legitimate round the world bike trip. Why would you want to do it on the sly? As Tonka said, in Europe you can legally work and reside, so why would you want to emigrate illegally? If you want to drop off the radar of your family and friends you can, without disappearing altogether and incriminating yourself.

One thing I been thinking of is, how did Top Gear get away with 2 passports on the Christmas special?

You are actually allowed to have two passports. They will probably ask you why, but if you explain your reasons (ie you are going on a journey which includes border crossings notorious for problems) they will issue you a second one.

Edit: Apparently you can also get 'diplomatic' passports which contain more pages.

So are you going to carry 10-15K with you in cash? If not then you become traceable, if yes then knowing you it'll have been conned off you in a game of tiddlywinks before you leave the pub nextdoor to your house.

You really can disappear almost anywhere, just never popping up in the places you're expected, you could hide for years, even in London.

My sister who lives in Australia reckons that all the people who want to disappear go up to the Northern Territories. She reckons its full of "all sorts of people" up there.
