Hi does anybody know where I can get my suspension forks straightened around the London area please?

Any DIY tips? engineering firms? dealers or specialists.

Thanks

Ed

I used this guy,

https://www.optiflowuk.com/

He was very friendly and helpful, be warned, forks often can't be straightened. I would consider buying new stantions or a second hand pair of forks. ABE sell forks but a word of warning mine pitted within a year try to stick to OEM second hand stantions.

Thanks again, did you end up using ABE for new sanctions or get yours repaired?

I think mine have kinked at the point of the yoke clamps (about halfway down the sanctions) so I may have to buy new forks or sanctions.

Ebay isnt providing much at the moment, at the minuite im looking at quotes for repairs but it looks unlikely its do-able at the moment.

If it's there, it actually 'matters' less as it won't cause fork seals to leak just from that.
I'd look at all the prices, then consider seeing what you can do with a scaffold pole too Smile.

That's what happened to mine, I went with ABE but I would never buy from them again, they seem to be pretty poor quality,

What I would do is buy a decent pair of SH forks and make sure they are in good nick, strip both pairs of forks down then built them back up with new seal and bushes and the best bits from the pair.

You are lucky through,

use the same upper stantions. It may be that the bikes that use the same upper stantions have the same lower ones as well but the internals have been upgraded so a pair from a modern bike might be a decent upgrade.

yeah i saw those 02 speed triple ones on ebay, need new oil and seals but so what, may be a good find if the price is right!

Triumph do a lot of stuff that can be swaped between models and from what you say their forks will too.

Im just hoping nobody is in the same boat as me so i dont get outbid lol

pic of mine attached 1 for each, one obviously worse than the other, not major just annoying while riding. Thumbs Up

If they are kinked - don't try to straighten them, if they were merely bent you could press them straight.

While waiting for a pro's opinion on my current forks, I went out (on ebay) and bought a pair of 02 speed triple legs(complete + axle). £97 inc. postage which I though was pretty fair for how rare a good set can be, but Iv gotta wait over 2 bloody weeks for delivery though!

Once i get them, il take the opportunity to do a complete strip, oil and seal change. And if im lucky I may just have a spare set in a sound condition to sell.

Thanks for all your advise. Thumbs Up

right iv got the new forks, theyre off an 02 speed triple to fit my 97 daytona. Iv done the strip down of the forks which was eaaaaaaaasy.

But the fork seals for the 97 dont seem to fit the 02? could anyone tell me if theres any size difference as they seem the same on paper but not in reality. Thanks.

I dunno, the new ones should just slide on as easy as the old ones came off right?

They seem completely the same online but physically look smaller than the 'tona ones in person. Maybe the ebay supplier screwed up???

Did you put any oil on the seals? The old ones would be a little looser they are tight. Picks of both the old and new seal?

I would more be worried about the callipers and wheel fitting and lining up.

The seal sizes should be moulded on the front face. If they are just compare the numbering.

It was quite clear the seals I ordered to fit a t595 were about 2mm smaller than I needed. Its worth checking the size dimensions when buying seals and not always trusting what make and model is recommended (on ebay at least anyway!).

While looking at both pairs of forks from the 97 & 02 there are a few immediate differences;

1st is that the 02 has a digital speedo and therefore has a different mounting to that of the 97 which is mechanical. The speedo mech may also be a different size too.

2nd is the axle diameter for the 02 is about 2-4mm smaller than that on the 97 which now means il will have to strip both pairs and hopefully use the upper sanctions off the 02s which are straight and the rest off the 97. This is to say both upper sanctions are the same, cos if not the seals wont fit as well as other bits too.

At least its keeping me busy and im learning silly details about triumphs!

Upper sanctions from 97-02 are identical, so I've used the straight uppers and newer internals on the existing fork bottoms. Done a set of fork seals on my own for the 1st time last night, but ran out of enough fork oil. I bought some more on by break today so it concludes tonight and should be ready to go back on the bike in no time. Smile

£97.00 - Pair of forks
£5.35 - Fork oil seals
£6.75 - Dust seals
£13.90 - 10w Fork oil 2x litres
