 |
|
Hi Guys new to the site so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Have left my bandit 600 96 reg over the xmas period for 2 weeks whilst i was away and it just wont start!
I have removed plugs, checked carbs ect.... and cannot understand why?
Also i was wondering, had the bike about 6 months now it only has 28k on it, is it worth starting to mod a bike of that age or would you buy a newer bike and customize that one, money is an issue at the moment but dont want to spend on my current bike if im going to lose it all, cheers guys!

28k isn't much for a bandit. Mod it what ever the age, the bandits if they're cared for will go on alot longer than that. Does The battery turn the engine over fast? If you've got spark and fuel is getting into the cylinders then i'd say your spark isn't strong enough ( what colour spark are you getting?) or the engine isn't truning over fast enough for it to fire. Personally i'd try a new battery then if that doesn't cure it start looking at other possibilities.
Just thought, was it kept outside while it wasn't being used? ____________________ Current Bike- Suzuki DRZ400 SM K6

I had the same sort of problem on my bandit. All it was for me was a wire had come out of the bottom of the ignition barrel.
I ended up taking it to the mechanic and felt a little bit embarrassed.
hope this might help hours of tearing your hair out. ____________________ k.skelly....aprilia RX50 (stolen) | fzr 400 1988. restricted | Bandit 600 | Gsxr 750 SRAD, 1999. |

I had a similar (or possibly the same) problem with mine a couple of days ago. Hadn't been used for a week or so. Tried starting till the battery went flat, tried bumping, and although it sounded like it was trying to go, it just couldn't quite fire up.
In the end I just jumped it from the car, took about 5-10 mins of continuous attempts, but eventually it caught and came alive again.
My feeling is that the fuel had either dried up in the float bowls, or it had developed an air block somewhere and couldn't draw the petrol in quickly enough. Or, it didn't like being left alone for so long and was just a bit grumpy with me.
It's been fine since and starts on the button everytime.
Anyway, try jumping it from a car if you have one and keep trying, it should fire eventually, and when it does it'll be fine. ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

hey guys sorry for the late reply, still no look, didnt explain fully:
bike has now been sat for a month..... it just wont start, tried bumping it again on a full charge (no luck) taken ht leads off plugs and top of cylinder head where the plugs sit is slightly damp, cleaned and dried it to no avail...
spark is blue when charged and when i turn her over for a few seconds there is a loud bang 2 or 3 times out of the exhaust.....
has been sat there OUTSIDE unfortunately through winter, no other option has been fully polished and sprayed to protect as best i can....
other thing is i have just learned that i should have drained the fuel from the tank and the carbs but didnt no that before....
so old fuel in bike......
think next thing to do is new plugs, new batery, change oil, and fuel and remove carbs to clean....?
cheers for the help guys!
oh the bike is also restricted for another couple of months so should i take the restrictors out to start her then when shes running fine, put them back in or would i need to re balance the carbs for that?

IIRC up in on, horizontal is prime and down is reserve
Its a vacuum so it cannot be turned off
Plus check if your choke cable has snapped, as if it had it would be hard to start in this cold weather |

yer theres a few of us workin on it atm...
an tbh apart from me they all no a little about engines!
we are all baffled.....
i no i only put it in the 1 cylinder after to see if i could just get 1 fired up, as i believe that can sometimes help???
maybe not...
anyway thinking of just poppin it into a local service garage and biting the bullet and probably fixing the hole in my pocket that this is gonna cost.....
