Hi,
I've just started to undo the rear wheel and all is going well unrtil I got to the rear wheel nut.
One of them is not come coming undone. Just seems to be revolving round and round.
I've put the other wheel nut back and tightened it, but it still doesn't want to come off.

I've added the attachments but can't seem to make them preview.

cheers

The bike should be supported so there is no weight on the back end. then you need to lift the weight off the wheel and then you should be able to slide the axel out.

Ok,
The bike is supported on paddock stand.
I'll try to support the wheel and pull it out with my fingers?

cheers

Ok, I've found a few tools to help me knock it out.
Need to do this carefully without damaging the exhaust.

Jiggle the back wheel up and down, while pulling on the spindle.

Got that BLASTED things out! finally.

Thanks guys.

I had to use a combination of rubber hammer, wood, crowbar and it;s out...

I can't believe it was that stiff!

When putting this blasted wheel spindle back in, should I use Bearing Grease, or molybdenum disulphide grease i bought from halfrods.

Just don't want it to be that stiff...

cheers

Moly grease will be fine.

I use copper grease on mine. Just a thin skimming so it doesn't get into the bearings. Nothing should be turning on the spindle anyway, the grease is there to stop it seizing, not for lubrication.

You get stuck spindles quite a lot. I think it's due to differing metal corrosion where the steel spindle passes through the alloy of the hub or an alloy calliper bracket. The alloy corrodes slightly and the hole becomes narrowed by white furry aluminium oxide. Worth giving this a clean out too with some emery paper or wire wool. A smear of grease will help prevent this recurring.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I've managed to take the rear wheel off now.

Just need to get to those brakes tomorrow.

I've made a short youtube clip of my work.

Please comment with suggestions...

Cheers...

When you're undoing the nut that adjusts the rear brake just push the arm forward with one hand & you can spin the nut off with the other.. saves a lot of 'spannerin'..

Taking the chainguard off makes for easier access when taking the chain off the sprocket & putting it back on..

Next time once the spindle has moved a bit, just stand up, grab the top of the wheel with one hand & take the weight off the spindle, it will then slide out merely by pulling it with your other hand. Ditto when ya go to put it back in.

& buy some bloody ratchet spanners or at least some 1/4 & 3/8 drive sockets.

The best way in this instance would probably be to use a slide hammer, or a long drift from the other side, (exhaust permitting). That's a minute point tho.

Next tip - clean the bloomin thing Laughing

Yes, the exhaust was the problem. I just couldn't get a drift there. That would have made the job easier.

A slide hammer? I'll have to look into that.
cheers
