OK, I had this fantastic 80 litre backpack that I have cycled with for years. Mega comfy, could fit a set of work clothes, shoes, rain suit, packed lunch, and open university books in for my trip to work Monday morning, and trip home Friday night. Could also fit most purchases from a Saturday shop in there. I has however just snuffed it, due in part to a ferret digging a hole in the bottom.
Randomly looking for new bags I found this, £20 for an 80 litre bag :
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/-80-litre-rucksack-back-pack-hiking-bag--red_W0QQitemZ310223012863QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=&rvr_id=&cguid=896cfea61280a0e20313db93fef20ac8
Pretty cheap. I then had a look for motorbike luggage options and seemed to find, there's no cheap motorbike luggage. Prices for soft panniers seem to start at £40 for 40 litres? That is less than the backpack for double the price. Tail pack's and tank bags seem just as bad for the litres to price ratio.
So the question I guess is, does anywhere sell motorbike luggage cheaper than that, that makes it worth buying luggage over a new backpack?
Also, if there is a yes, is there any recommendations for what to buy for a Rieju RS2?
Ooo and another thing! Is it worth buying one of these if I did go for panniers?

Theres a good reason they are only 40Litre panniers, its all about the weight... Your 'back' is the strongest part of your body, a backpack actually distributes the 'load' to each of your shoulders/back. A bike is exactly the same, each panniers designed to take even loads.. otherwise you'll end up putting the bikeout of balance and it'could result in disasterous consequences.
If your carrying something of substantial weight, consider a topbox, you can pick these up cheap enough..

Yep, a new bike!
Waste of money, you can get that stuff in sheets from poundland, or use a shammy leather, it will serve the same purpose
Hope this helps ____________________ Bringing Classic Bikes Back Into Fashion

I get that, just surprised at the cost for such a small luggage space. Mind you my last bag was an ex army one and lasted nearly a decade for £8. I feel.... Cheap...

Ahh, right, now you mention it I think when i joined the forum there was something about Pounland having non slip mats or something people were using for panniers. I will have a gander in there tomorrow.

I personally wouldn't like to fall off with 80litres of stuff strapped to my back, so if you can attach it to the bike instead even better.
|
Most of its going to be clothes and books. 2 pairs of jeans, wetsuit, 2 tops, trainers and some Open Uni books. Bags still half empty but like I said my original one I got from one of them army shops for £8 and lasted a decade. I have gotten used to having a big roomy bag on my back
Thanks to you both! |

Or Home Bargains if you're up North. They do thick ones for £1 and thin ones for 50p. I have a thick one for if I ever get panniers and use a thin one underneath my tank bag. |

Oo hadn't seen the roll bags. Still green to motorbikes, wasn't aware of them. That is quite handy... And appeals to my inner tightwad... Thankies Porter!
Afraid I am down south and have 2 poundland's in my local town ms51ves3. Pound land will be the place to go tomorrow |

No problem Nai..
They do deliver i think.
but maybe try some of the camping stores....?
Blacks do this...https://www.blacks.co.uk/rucksacks/accessories/product/095308.html
campers /bikers want the same thing.... dry stuff at the end of a ride/trek...
good luck..
Oh, and btw, i was in Poundland today at they do a 10L drybag....
(i know but it was ONLY a pound... )
You wont get much more in there then a pair of jeans and maybe a shirt...maybe.. ____________________ Previous bikes: Suzuki GT250A / Yamaha DT125 / NTV Honda 650 // currently Suzuki RF900 |

Just a follow up, haven't got a tail pack / dry bag yet. Did get some cheap panniers of GhostBike. Linkage for anyone looking for panniers at the moment.
https://www.ghostbikes.com/products/1620-ghost-first-time-motorcycle-panniers.html
Feels well made, has waterproof liners in, lostsa straps and useful stuff included with them.
The backpack in my first post... Its OK... In hindsight I kinda wish I had gotten an ex army one again. They ain't pretty but they are bomb proof compared to any other backpack you buy of course. Oh well, Tail pack or dry bag next |

I have a Honda bike and i purchased <a href="https://www.vikingbags.com/Honda-Shadow-Ace-Saddlebags.htm">Honda Shadow Ace Saddlebags</a> which looked very pretty and work nicely on my bike.
I suggest them for every one... |
