So new i've never even been on one
Im looking at doing the direct access course in the near future tho.
Im not sure what route to go down tho, do i just go there and get them to teach me from scratch or do i get a cheap 125 to ride around some private land i have access to to get a bit of practice and some gear control????
I'll be getting a gsxr600, Ive read a few threads about new riders going staight to big bikes and i understand the dangers so i dont want this thread to turn into an argument from both sides please
I do have a few questions about protective gear tho, the first one is Kevlar Jeans or leather trousers? pros and cons or each would be helpfull please and also any opinions on these boots, helmet and leather jacket would be very helpfull... I like the fact the jacket has a built in back protector and as for the helmet its just what i was looking for design wise but i know thats no reason to buy it if its poo, its half price but still seems cheap and it has mixed reviews.
Boots..

as above really, i wouldnt bother with a 125 at all just go and do your course etc
as for helmet just make sure its a perfect fit, go to a helmet shop and ask for there help, they are very very usefull. try loads and loads on, narrow your choice down to the most comfotable, then wear it for a while in the shop to check it doesnt give you a headache after 10 minutes or anything.
kevlar jeans are alright to be honest, and i have RST leather jacket and trousers and i can vouch for them, they are very very very good amazing quality for there price, my jacket still looks basicly new after a few years of abuse ____________________ KLX 300r |

I'd never really ridden a geared bike before I did my DAS. I was lucky and took to it well. I found the GS500 much easier to handle than the 125 I spent a few hours doing my CBT on, because it was more stable and had much more power.
Why don't you give this a shot, you'll get some free riding https://www.geton.co.uk/content/whats-it-all-about
As said helmet fit is paramount so make sure you get out to some bike shops and try some skid lids. You can get a decent one from around £60 but i'm not even going to start that argument!
I wear textiles with armour and find them fine for commuting to work, make sure you have removable liners as they can get hot in the summer. Leather is the ultimate in protection but you pay for that with a loss of practicality.
Enjoy the course and the GSXR, but watch it........it'll kill ya ____________________ Current ride - Yamaha MT-07 |

it will protect more than normal clothing, no where near what leathers would. saying that you could proabbly have a few offs in kevlar jeans and not get a scratch really, luck of the draw sometimes.
also practicality, if your going somewhere were its not practicle to have leather/textile trousers on all day then kevlar jeans are your best option ____________________ KLX 300r |

If you're determined to get a gixxer, don't waste your time with a 125, just cram through your DAS.
By the way, do you have a hot wife or girlfriend, and can I have her phone number?

Sunny Sunday rider and don't think you'll come off => kevlar jeans
Sunny Sunday rider, prepared to accept that you might come off => leather
All weather rider => cordura (textile)

That's a cordura textile jacket, not leather. It's likely to be more water resistant than leather, less likely to come apart at the seams than cheap leather but ultimately not as protective as good leather.
The back protector will be better than nothing, and you're more likely to leave it in and wear it. If you've got some self discipline, consider something like a Knox back and chest protector rig though.
The HJC helmet is 3 star SHARP rated, with good front, top and rear protection, but not so good side protection. Do please consider a white or silver helmet though - better if you can be seen and not hit in the first place.
With helmets and boots, it's mostly about fit though. Get down to your local bike store, and try on a bunch of helmets and boots. If it's not secure and snug without pinching or rubbing, then it won't protect you. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
