 |
|
I've completed my 2-year restriction on my ER-5 and have found a nice 2001 Kawasaki Zx7R for sale. 19K miles. £1,800 (ono) ....ONLY problem is it's very high for me (tip of big toes on floor!!). It's in my budget and in very good condition. I'm a short arse and as the bike is a heavier than most my questions are:
1-what is the best way to lower it a few inches of so? I've read about shortened suspension links, is this a good option.
2-how much may this cost including labour costs (approx) ?
3-Does it seem like a good price for the bike?
for the condition and price i feel that if i could get this bike lowered then it would be a very good step-up from my ER-5 (plus i could always get it 'raised' again if i felt comfortable with its size in the future).
Thanks in advance
PS- please don't suggest "you'll just get used to the height" as i've had my ER-5 for 2 years and i know what i can/can't manage. ____________________ Kawasaki ER-5 |

Like you I'm a short ass, 5ft 6, but with an inside leg about 29 inches or so. I also have a zx7r. Also like you I have both feet down with tip toes, to flat foot I can only manage 1 foot.
1. The zx7r has a built in height adjuster, its quite possible that the 7r you are looking at has had its rear end jacked up so it would be worth checking.
Its a common thing to do to raise the rear ride height adjuster by 25mm to increase steering response, i haven't done this however.
2. If your desperate to lower it, which id suggest against, a set of dog bones is about £15, and all you would need to do this yourself is an abba stand or something similar to get the rear off the ground (axle stands under foot pegs perhaps).
3. price wise seems fine, 19k isn't many miles and the engines if well maintained are pretty bomb proof.
I know you said you don't think you can handle the height of it as it is, but its just about building your confidence with it.
If you do get it, rest assured its one of the best looking kwaks you can buy
oh yeah, and get yourself over to www.redmonkey.com/7r |

Bacon, I'm pretty much those exact dimensions (height/leg)
I'm not sure exactly what the current suspension settings are (i'm guessing default). Do you ride your zx7r with it on default (ie how i think this bike is when im on tip-toes) or do you ride it on a lower setting?
I'm most likely going to pay a mechanic to put shorter links/bones in (i can always change them back).
I think my immediate concern is getting it home plus also 'getting used' to the bike. I really want to be as comfortable on the bike as possible as it's the first sports bike i've owned. ____________________ Kawasaki ER-5 |
