Hi,ive had probs with this before but before replacing with new i have 3 questions.
1) if i join the two wires together/or not connected at the switch, which would that make the correct connection to fire fire up?

2)is this saftey feature part of the mot?

3) the cheapest ive seen is £17 for new anybody now of cheaper?

many thanks to all replies.

Well, you've only got two choices. Take it off and see if the bike runs. If so, job done. If not, join the wires. Job done either way.

It's not part of the MOT or (AFAICR) any C&U Regulations. I removed the switch on my 125 from new before I ever rode it, as they're notorious for failing on that model.

The thing is, they're very simple switches. If you want to retain yours, you should be able to strip it down and give it a good clean up yourself. A basic £5 multimeter will be enough to find any point of failure.

disconnect side stand switch and make a connector block and plug it instead.

Here you go a link to where you can make one

If you're happy you can trust yourself to:
a) Not ride away with the stand down.
and
b) Not press the starter while in gear with the clutch out.

Pull the block connector off the clutch switch. Insert a bit of bent paperclip between the two terminals that do not have a light green wire attached. Reconnect the block connector.

This will bypass the entire safety interlock system.

Much as the Pilgrims must have done.

Fair point, it might depend on what you're used to. I made a conscious decision to ditch the switch on my first bike so that I'd never have a chance to get used to relying on it. I've never pulled away with the stand down, and always assume that the bike is in gear, i.e. pull in the clutch before starting, then let it out carefully. I'd rather have good habits plus an occasional safety net than to rely on the net being there.

thanks chaps, i think i wll start by joining the wires together, there could possibly be another fault somewhere as ive noticed the oil light has not been comming on when the ignition is on, the past week its been off today back on, but the bike still started ( unless the switch was a bitch) so im hoping it boils down to the saftey set up rather than the ignition switch/system apart from that it runs a treat.
