When I've seen this behaviour before it's been because the rubber manifold between the carb and engine was perished or not sealing properly, leading to the engine revving sometimes on it's own as extra air gets drawn in.

If it's perished you can check by spraying WD40 onto and around the rubber when the engines running and seeing if the revs rise as it's drawn in.

It could be just the cable needing oiling , or renewing ?

Maybe something is sticking inside the carb? And when you turn the screw it jumps back down? Throttle slide or needle?

Strip down your carb, clean it up and put it back in. Failing that buy a new carb for the correct engine Laughing

hi my son came up today and he done the fairy liquid test he sprayed all the pipes to see if any air was being sucked in but nothing he sprayed the other side of the engine why running and the bottom of the head was sucking air in, as it sucked the water he sprayed on it the engine died son took head of re newed head gasket when he done the work we went in for a cuppa came back out to the bike and tryed to start it it took quite a few kicks but started in the end and reving at 1500revs carb still needs setting up but lest its not drawing air in sounds great now we did find that its got a bigger head and piston in it so its been played with before fingers crossed its going to be ok now thank you for you help
