When Benson_JV told me he'd knackered his swingarm (See here) I knew I was going to have to fix it.

First thing we did is forget the Haynes manual, but luckily it was quite simple to figure out: Remove chain guard/hugger, remove rearsets for easier access, remove side panels, seat and rear fairing for easier access, remove exhaust (needed changing for MOT, also easier access), drop out back wheel and remove calliper, unbolt shock linkage, unbolt shock from swingarm (we did these two the wrong way around, because I'm a plank), unbolt swingarm.

The reassembly is essentially the reverse of the above, but with the added bonus of chain tensioning and wheel alignment (we did the chain up a tad tight).

As this thread would be absolutely worthless without pics, here are some!

Chain guard and hugger off, screws back in their original holes

Rearsets, rear brake master cylinder and reservoir off

Topless Benson_JV. Scary I know.

Back wheel and brake calliper out. In the orange bag is the rear wheel spindle (we're organised like that)

Removing shock linkage from swingarm. We should have removed the bolt above it first to make life easier. Also, note the plastic bag in the exhaust: If something CAN drop down somewhere, it WILL drop down somewhere.

Swingarm nut.

Old swingarm out. Picture time!

https://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n510/isoisawillson/IMG_0657.jpg
Break over, new swingarm in. Didn't have any proper grease so sprayed the spindle with some silkolene chain gel.

https://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n510/isoisawillson/IMG_0658.jpg
Shock linkage bolted back in.

https://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n510/isoisawillson/IMG_0659.jpg
Back wheel back in, that's me buggering about with the rear brake system.

https://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n510/isoisawillson/IMG_0661.jpg
Not a bad job eh?

https://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n510/isoisawillson/IMG_0662.jpg
Finally bolting the right hand peg back on.

https://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n510/isoisawillson/IMG_0664.jpg
Chain guard and hugger back on.

After that we refitted the side panels, seat and rear fairing, mounted the stock exhaust back on and rode from Wythall to Tipton for an MOT. That passed with advisories on the rear pads (they're running low) and the chain was a little tight.

All in all not a bad day!

Bostin. Cool
All that's left to do now is fit the other zorst, replace pads and re-tension that chain!

Remember kids, whenever you slacken off the rear spindle and subsequently retighten - you must check that the chain adjusters are tight.

The local garage forgot to do this on a mates bike; his chain adjuster plates are in a bush somewhere in the South of France.

If you want rid of the Swinger Steven_191 might want it as he is putting a CBR rear end on his Mito 640 project.
