Additionally, surely this means that the government will be collecting less in fuel duty so increase the country's defect. |
Indeed. The more fuel costs, the more people will make their own decisions about how much to buy and try and decide how long they want it to last realistically. That means car sharing, going on the train or otherwise and even just putting ten quid in every now and then so it isn't so hard.. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

And quite seriously, we're currently in a brief inter-glacial period in an ice age, and the glacial period is due, or overdue, to recur.
Warming ourselves right out of the ice age without going through another glacial period, is far, far, far better than the alternative. Warming will bring change, and both problems and opportunities. But going through a full blown glacial period would wipe out, what, 90% of humanity through starvation and war. And good luck rebuilding afterwards with most of the easily accessible oil already used.
We've got a brief opportunity to bootstrap ourselves to a fusion economy, get our eggs out of this fragile basket and take our rightful places as masters of this galaxy, so burn, baby burn! You're either with us, or you're with the bug eyed monsters from Proximi Centauri. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
