Just got home from work and noticed a rounded chunk of metal in my rear tyre, it's about 1/2" from the right hand side edge of the tyre.

I've spat on the area and can't see or feel air coming out, the tyres are literally 3 weeks old, not even 1000 miles on them, but it seems to be at such an angle that it may have just gone through the tread.

My question is, if the pressure stays the same, is it safe to ride on? it's so close to the edge of the tyre that it couldn't be repaired. Would doing 150mph on it cause a blowout? would getting it cranked right over cause it to split?

Cheers guys, karma aplenty

Suspect #1, as you can see the rounded section has hit the ground since it went in, the long straight bit went in the tyre and the rounded bit was flush against the tyre.

as said it's 1/2" from the edge, highly doubt it's pluggable

Would not risk it... personally.. if it pops whilst you are riding hard/overtaking.. thats going to end up more than £130 for a tyre... might not even be that nice for yourself Wink

Either way its your call... When I had G's bike the rear tyre needed changing anyway.. but I managed to get a nail through the tread AND the sidewall. Rode <20mph to the garage to change it.

Wouldnt consider riding a bike with metal sticking out of it Laughing

If the bike has tubed tyres, just inspect the tube to make sure it hasn't got any leaks.

I don't have any experience on tubless though.

If the tyre will take a tube , fitting one could save you buying a new tyre , have done it a few times on cars
I would go to a friendly tyre shop & ask them to inspect it & there advice Neutral

What tyre. As some like Avon have a free replacement if less than x m/m of thread are used.
