Does anyone know if you can fit radial Brembo calipers from Ducati's/Aprilia's to Japanese bikes with radial mounts?

If you want to upgrade them on the Kawak, just buy some radial Gold spots I think; From the R6. You will need to make some spacers, or change the discs too. Probably worth looking at the master cylinder while your at it.

If your committed it wouldn't cost a hudge amount, as if you sell the stuff from the Kawak you will make most of your money back.

That's the best option and its been done before I think. Just double check the hole distances.

Yeah I've read about that swap but people say they're not worth it. Instead they go for the Nissin master and calipers of the newer Kawasaki's which is a straight swap.

Not really looking to swap, just keeping my options open in case what I try doesn't work Thumbs Up

Fair enough.

You'd be better looking at the master cylinder. Could you not see if one fitted from the 10r maybe or similar?

I think the spacing between the bolts is different for the euro bikes and jap bikes.

I might be wrong but it's not just a case of machining up some spacers, you would have to change fork bottoms.

(waits to be proven wrong...)

I think you can get adapter kits but that's all complicated Laughing

The Nissin MC's and calipers from all the new bikes fit but the MC go for about £100 second hand in the UK, I could get a new Brembo MC for £140. They do do come up on the US forums but are sold within a few minutes!

Ideally I don't want to spend anything because I'm not too keen on the bike so not sure how long I'll keep it. I'll get a fluid change and bleed done and maybe clean them up and see how it goes.

I've heard zx14r brakes and larger 310mm discs are a strait swap. All you need is some 5/10mm spacers.

There are plenty of pots you can swap the standard ones with, all you need is some pretty cheap spacers.

I'm thinking of the nissin pots for mine, but It's lower on the list of mods I've got planned. Next up suspension refresh and set up, then brakes or noisy pipes.

Yup they use the same Nissin's I was on about. The disc upgrade is optional but the 03/04 636 does have the smallest of the lot at 280mm Neutral

I read that changing to a radial master (Nissin or Brembo) makes the most difference on the 03/04 but for you it probably won't be since you already have a radial MC!

See if you can get a whole 07 set up. Pots, rotors and mc. Easy to fit and lots of people saying they are very strong.

The B1H isn't exactly renowned for having crap brakes. Why do you feel the need to upgrade them?

If it is the feel of the brakes then strip them down, clean everything and out consider new seals. Braided lines will help them feel a little stiffer but it is mostly psychological and wont have any real benefit on the road unless your current hoses are knackered. I would certainly consider some new hoses and an overhaul before brake caliper and disc conversions, I seriously doubt that the zx6r doesn't have enough stopping power in it's stock format.

Already has braided lines. I'm not sure when the fluid was last changed so i'm going to get that done, have them bled and maybe clean them up. Hopefully that should sort the sponginess. Failing that it will have to be a new MC

No, Brembo's do not fit the Jap radial forks.

Brembo's use a 108mm pitch, all the japs use 100mm.

The spacers people are talking about are just to push the calipers further out because of the size of the disk, but this is only when trying to fit calipers from an R6/R1 etc...

Hope this helps. Wink Thumbs Up

I'm with DonnyBrago on this one. A complete overhaul of the brakes can and will work wonders. Spend a lot of time getting all the air out of the system. I find removing the calipers multiple times and compressing the pistons then bleeding and repeating can free trapped air. Shake the hoses about. Stick something between the pads and bleed with the calipers removed etc.

Plenty of tricks to get your brakes nice and tight.

I see it has tokico calipers. I pretty much despise the tokicos on my bike but yours look like a better design.

Start with the easy and cheaper stuff first. I would go nissin though if I were you and looking to upgrade, but I think your brakes will be more than adequite especially for the road.
