You will have some mechanical friction on the rear clutch assembly but the rear should only spin up if the clutch is spinning fast enough to engage the drum/rear transmission.

Is your clutch drum blue from heat? you could have your idle set to high or the clutch springs could be weak or possibly even a broken spring, or your pulleys are sticking in the higher ratios thus spinning the clutch up to fast at idle,

you realy need to set your idle then if it still drags get the belt cover off so that you can see whats going on.

Your wheel probably won't be spinning at top speed unless your revs are rediculasly high you don't get full variation untill your hitting 30mph or so.

When you put the bike up on the stand check that it is not fowling any of the rubber tubes eg fuel and that all of the intake system pipework is intact.

Other than that the only two other options will be idle set too high or it's pulling on the throttle cable.

hmmm... im completely new to mopeds and i brought this as a project to keep me occupied

and i have a vague idea on mopeds but i dont really know what to do.

i do know that when i start it on the stand the revs increase and the wheel starts spinning like mad...

+ when i take it off the stand it idles fine and it doesnt rev it idles perfect...

i think i need to get a mechanic to take a look as i dont really know what im doing :/

but im thinking maybe its an air leak as there is a crack on the plastic cover which is on the side case which i think is the viaritator cover case?

thanks for all ur great ideas on what might be wrong but its really confusing me :/.

def. got to be a cable routing problem. Check where the cable runs cos something is pulling on it

I think that the idle speed is a bit too high. Try adjusting the idle speed screw on the carb and see if anything happens. It should be a screw with a spring. Try twisting it either way and see if it makes any difference.

Take a few pictures of your carb for me, and I will try and identify it for you.

Also what scooter do you have?

Mine is located on the left hand side of the bike, near the rear wheel. Do you know what a carb looks like? Heres what mine looks like:

You see the silvery flat-head screw with a spring... thats the idle speed screw. Look for something similiar on your ped.

If I'm perfectly honest I cannot remember which way to turn it haha... you will have to try this out yourself... don't worry about over doing it because you have to twist it in quite a lot to adjust the RPM's on idle.

Haha thats cool... keep us up to date Smile This stuff really interests me Smile
