Hi,

Just wondered if you could recommend a Summer Bike Jacket to me, or is there really such a thing?

Basically one that still offers good protection with that CE armour stuff in, that doesn't make you sweat as much!

I have come across a couple of decent looking ones on ebay around the £50 mark, they have inner layers that can be unzipped but even then do you reckon it would get a bit toasty?

Obviously I'd rather be sweating my balls off and have protection, I just thought I'd ask to see what's cool Cool

I think I'd rather it was textile but open to see what's good!

Cheers Thumbs Up

I currently use an RST Fusion jacket in the summer, it has a removable lining which is great, only has the CE armour in the shoulders and under-forearms which is nice.

Most of all it has perforated leather so the air can get through which makes it fantastically cool but not cold.

Here's a link: Clicky here.

HTH! Thumbs Up!

Currently using an Akito textile jacket (with the thermal lining removed) for the warmer weather,
https://adxserver3.com/acatalog/blu.jpeg

or an RST textile jacket (plus thermal lining if needed) similar to the one below for wet / cold / night riding

Was coming on here tonight to ask the exact same question...
Very Happy
Its already 18-20 degrees here and went for my first ride yesterday and nearly died in leathers.
Dont expect to be doing loads of riding in the summer as too hot and too busy.
As the OP said would rather sweat than risk protection but what would be the most light weight gear that still protects in all the right places?

Gore Tex versions are good, but they are not cheap though.

I have a Richa "Air Vent" jacket. It's a textile jacket with waterproof and thermal liners, so it's versatile. When you take away the liners there are mesh vents in the arms, chest, sides and back and these are really effective.

I'm never too hot when wearing this jacket. Another bonus is that it's acceptably warm for a summer jacket with the liners in place.

Saw one of these in a shop the other day. It is pretty much a mesh jacket with armour, and then more protective material in the most likely areas for abrasion.

Looked really nice and light, perfect for summer rides

There are quite alot of sporty textile jackets about which are designed more for fair weather riding,I have an arlen ness jacket which you can zip out the bodywarmer thermal liner and the water/windproof lining and with those removed it is very light and airy but saying that I find my leather jacket without the liner fine in the summer as long as I wear a thin base layer underneath for comfort.

The best summer jackets are the mesh ones. They are made of abrasion resistance mesh and have armour in all the right places but the wind blows straight through them. Keeps you so cool.

Something like this.
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BUFFALO-COOLFLOW-MESH-SUMMER-BIKE-JACKET-BLACK-4XL_W0QQitemZ200588278398QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=223565716851&rvr_id=223565716851&cguid=fdf4c8221280a0e202463c36fe1578ea

Failing that I wear my Enduro armour with a t shirt over the top.
