Letter 1: fix the clutch, or I'll have it fixed at an independent garage then recover my costs.
Letter 2: "letter before action": last chance to pay my costs before I file a court action.
File a County Court small claim to recover the costs.
Clear enough? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I wish it was as simple as that rogerborg.
Basically I've spoken to Peugeot customer services and they gave me two ultimatums.
I needed to authorise them to open my clutch to determine who was at fault and whether its wear and tear or a manufacture defect.
If it turns out to be wear and tear then I needed to fork out the whole £500 or if its a manufacture defect then they would contribute a a large amount towards the cost. They wouldn't say how much but more than likely 50 - 60% which I thought was shit.
Now even though the car still has warranty, a clutch's warranty is only covered for up to 6k.
I really thought it must be a manufacturer defect because I've owned a pug 206 from new which had 60k miles on and never changed the clutch, the misses had a clio with 20k miles before we sold it.
I couldn't take the chance with a £500 bill so I took the car elsewhere and paid £175 to do the clutch and go down the route of a small claims.
When the bloke took my old clutch out I asked him if it was premature failure as I was going to kick up a shit storm with Peugeot and to my horror he said "looks like wear and tear!
Either the misses has been riding the clutch (which she hasn't ) or I've just been unlucky.
luckily I didn't leave it with Peugeot! ____________________ on the look out for my next bike....

Agreed, for a clutch to wear out at 10K is a design or manufacturing fault, even if there's no obvious problem.
I'm not sure why you would you care about Peugeot's "ultimatums". Of course they're going to lie to you, and tell you that you enjoy no rights. That's their job.
But "ultimately", a court can decide the matter. Send a letter before action, then file the action and see if their attitude changes. All you have to lose is the cost of filing, which you can recover if you win or they cave. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Hey mate, as for your desire, remove the back and battery and leave it to dry, the screen likely has water in it also but this will leave in time. If you start it up with water still in it the screen goes blue haha
I did something similar to my htc desire, but on the 3rd week of ownership, except i jumped into a river forgetting it was in my pocket!
3 or 4 days of drying out and it started up just fine and aside some water marks inside of the screen there was bugger all else wrong with it.
I claimed on my insurance anyway, and they let me keep that one after a lot of faffing around of trying to find me a replacement (was during the craze phase so low stock everywhere), the water damaged one sold for £217 on ebay

They have a special warranty termination point for the clutch at 6k?
It sounds to me like Peugeot know exactly how long their clutches are going to last. Poor show
If you plan for the car to be a long term keeper, i'd fuck Peugeot off and learn how to change it yourself, sounds like you will be doing a few.
If you aren't keeping it, get the cheapest clutch you can find, get the cheapest independant to change it and flog the car.
Personally not sure I could be arsed with all the courts and letter writing hassle for the sake of a weeks wages. But some people love all that, and that is of course up to them.
If it was me, I would just add Peugeot to the shit list and move on. (They were already on my shit list btw). ____________________ So in other words, he stopped you for being flagrantly in posession of a motorcycle in direct contravention of the Hippies, Darkies and People Whose Face I Don't Like The Look of (Police Powers) Act. 1976 |

It does sound like a manufacturing fault, but ........
I have never burned a clutch out in my life. My wife has twice. Once on her car, and once on my landrover when sitting on a very steep uphill T junction and hanging the landy on its clutch for ages rather than useing the handbrake. And she still insists she did nothing wrong.

A mates clutch on his wifes new yaris died after 12k, he was told it was not covered and told them to fuck off pronto.
the words are you telling me a clutch is only meant to last 12k?
He got a new one fitted by the dealer within the week.
Of course they will tell you that its not covered they dont want to take the hit, thats not your problem!
I woulld speak to the main customer service line not the shop muppets, and I would mention you will consdier legal action for goods unfot for purpose.
I would find out the brand of clutch and contact them to see how long it should last under normal conditions.
I would say its up to the dealer to prove its not been driven as it should.
As for the phone well, why did your spawn have it anyway? ____________________ VFR FI 2000- Shiney Red Thing
