 Posted: 07:54 - 31 Mar 2011 Post subject: I want a race-focused toy <£1000 |
 |
|
As you can see in my sig, I've slowly worked my way through sporty bikes and ended up with a Moto Guzzi tourer with luggage and a centre stand - please spare me from 'pipe and slippers' jokes...
I don't have enough room to store and properly look after a 'juicy' 600/ 1000 cc beast, so thought I would get a cheap toy which I won't be worried to clean every fortnight.
Seems like there are loads of 400's out there but I know bugger all about them and need some advice.
Of course a 600 would be nice, as would an RS250. However, one is too expensive to be mistreated, and an RS250 needs looking after.
Any suggestions/ cracking finds on biketrader etc? ____________________ Kawasaki ER6n -> Honda CBR600RR -> Honda VTR 1000 -> Moto Guzzi Norge 1200

I rebuilt my old CBR600F into a trackbike for not very much cash. sounds like that would be ideal.
cheap to buy, plenty of parts and cheap/old enough not to get you all OCD about polishing it every 5 minutes
i've got a steelie, plenty quick enough, and solid enough to take being thrown down the road. good for some track fun but if you can the alloy frame models are probably your best bet. ____________________ CBR954RR - Daily toy

Thanks - all very useful.
I've had a look and it seems that all mentioned are well in excess of £1000.
Must admit, I'm confused as to why a 1980s/early 1990s 400 can cost as much as a late 1990s VTR1000 Firestorm.
Think I might rethink my budget and what I'm after...
Supermoto also sounds like a nice alternative. But don't MX and Supermotos require engine rebuilds and loads of maintenance? ____________________ Kawasaki ER6n -> Honda CBR600RR -> Honda VTR 1000 -> Moto Guzzi Norge 1200

What most matters is it's a boring commuter engine, versus a peppy sports engine . |

600 SRADs are dirt cheap. Fat ugly things but still, they go on ebay for £600-800 sometimes ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600

Im not far off and I found an rs great fun. Scream it all day long! Can easily go illegal speeds but not in 2nd gear
Depends on how much you are really looking for as I think an rs is quite suitable but you can find a 400 for around the same. Or even a bandit? Or is that not racey enough? You can easily pick one of them up for under a grand... ____________________ Rusty '02 Vito Camper + CBR600F3 |
