Thats probably for the case, then 250 for each camera or something. You can do 3d yourself just using 2 webcams.

Ah I get it now, the 99 I saw, its the kit you need to connect two cameras together. So you add the price of two cameras to that.

You may be able to stream video with webcams, but synchronising them to produce recorded video would be tricky, and the go pros are decent cameras judging by n3o's fisheye footish from a while back that got him convicted.

You just pull the data from both cameras at once, It's far easier than trying to start 2 physical cameras at the same time, store it in flash then recombine it later.

I guess you could run two webcams from a laptop and be out and about, but it's quite bulky, which is why people usually use cameras designed for the purpose to fit to their bike, helmet, whatever.

You could do it with 2 of those key chain cameras but you'd have to show them both the same even like you clapping your hands to be angle to synchronise the footage. You'd also have to keep them both parallel and at a constant distance appart. Maybe someone should give it a go and get some 3d riding footage. Maybe 3d cat & fiddle?

As I read it, $99 was for the 3D case to combine two cameras and the software to combine the footage.

If you could get hold of the GoPro 3D footage combining software, and record in the same format the go pro's do, I'm sure you could use that to combine the footage from two MD80's. Making a bracket would be tricky, as Frosty said, you'd need to be very precise on the angle and distance apart of the lenses. But it's perfectly doable with a good machine shop and a few hours of tweaking.
