This is the master cylinder from my Yamaha RZR250 project bike.
Obviously I would like to get a new brake lever but I can't identify it.
Does anyone recognise it from another Yamaha model?

I have tried Wemoto, who list a brake lever for an RZ250, but it doesnt fit this master cylnder.

The resevoir top measures 52 x 34mm, it is a "Nissin" 1/2 inch and has the number "9k" embossed on the underside of the pipe outlet.
The brake switch tab on the lever is 18mm long. The pivot point on the lever is 10mm thick.

It is a mid to late eighties Yamaha, maybe it is the same as the TZR 125 or 250 maybe an FZR400. It is definetly not the same as an LC or a YPVS.

The reason I ask is that I now have a small collection of new brake levers from LC's & YPVS's none of which fit this master cylinder.
As a temporary measure I have fitted a master cylinder from an FZR600, it works just fine but is twice the size of this one!

I can help with eliminations and tell you I am almost certain it is not the same as the TDR250's, I would think that would eliminate the TZR250 too though that is a guess.

I don't know what it's from, but I can narrow it down by saying it's not from an XJ Maxim/Seca 650/750, an FZ 400/600 or an RD 350. It might be from an FZR.

That doesn't mean to say that the levers from these won't fit though, so I'll take a look at the levers I have knocking about when I get home tomorrow and see if they match that one. I don't think they will as the bit of the lever that "pumps" is in a different place afaik but worth a shot.

Thanks, but that looks exactly like the YPVS lever, it is too thick at the pivot pont to fit the M/C and it doesn't have the switch tab either. Thumbs Up Karma

Have you found anything close to it but just a little too wide? If so it should be pretty easy to narrow it down a little at the pivot point.

Well I did think about this but it is not as easy as it sounds, you can't get a clear run across with a file, the switch tab gets in the way. Could probably do it with a milling machine but for the price of a new lever it's a last resort option.

I have bench grinders, angle grinders and dremel tools here if you get stuck. You can always post it to me with the dimensions and mark out in permanent pen where you want me to reduce it.

I know you're abroad but I'm happy to help if I can as a last resort method Thumbs Up

The switch tab does look very similar, but the master cylinder looks completely different. Very very roughly the pivot bit on the cb250 is 1.8cm wide if thats any help Very Happy

Hi

Had a look at an old catalogue and can't really recognise it (nearest possibility is RD80LC, but can't find a side shot of it to confirm it).

Could you post a piccy of the lever from vertically above without it mounted in the master cylinder.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Looking through that old catalogue it doesn't look like any Yamaha ones. Does look like a Honda one used on the CB124TDC, CB250NB/NDB/NDC, CB250RSD, CM250T, CB400NB/NDB/NDC, CX500B, CX500EC, CX500 turbo, CX500C, GL500D and a few others.

All the best

Keith
