SORN for a chopped up bike?

Wrecked my TZR a couple years back and have finally gotten around to stripping it. Frame was all bent and split so that's gone in the bin, engine has been sold to someone else to fit, various other bits are in a wicker basket in my garage. Just got a letter through reminding me to either tax it or SORN it. Not sure what to do? It has been SORNed for the last two years, but I don't want to have to SORN it every April for the rest of my life...

Afraid you will have to now. Only way to avoid it is to dispose of it through a registered recycler who can return the log book to the DVLA to say it has been destroyed. But most would probably want the frame to prove that it has been done.

Can you not just tick the scrapped section of the logbook and send that back to the DVLA?

Pick a name and address at random from the phone book and that person could become the new registered keeper for the bike. Wink

You left it outside, didn't you, and the rag & bone men took it?
Go to cop shop, report it 'Stolen'.... but you do not wish to press charges........ ask them what you should do with the log book..... send crime no to DVLA with explanatory letter.

Can't he just chop off the headstock with the VIN on it and post that to a scrap yard to declare as recycled/scrapped?

EDIT: NM, whole frame is binned. Lol, I'd do what tef said, report the frame nicked and leave them to it.

Haven't you exported it on a permanent basis? A little artistic licence on the V756 form and you're done. DVLA will no longer have any interest in said vehicle.

I'd do what Tef suggested "I left my frame on my driveway overnight like a silly sausage and some little darlings have half-inched it. It was worth nothing, but can I have a crime reference number so I can let the DVLA know it's dissapeared"

I write to inform you that, I am no longer responsible for this vehicle as it has been sold in parts and the frame destroyed in an accident, I hereby surrender all documents relevant to the bike in question, and returning the V5c registration certificate. The bike frame along with its chassis number is no longer in possession and was taken as scrap.

As of Date XYZ I am no longer responsible for it, and wish to inform you of the vehicles current state of being scrapped, and I have filled the V5c out accordingly to show the vehicle has been scrapped.

I have done that on several cars, so far never had an issue with them, they just send you out a letter saying thank you for informing them you are no longer the registered keeper.

I'm not up to speed on the ELV regs so if someone could point me at a copy it would be most helpful.

I would be syrprised if there was anything in them to stop a private person scrapping a vehicle themselves as opposed to using an authorised treatment facility as the regs as I understand them are aimed at industry.

DVLA are, lets face it known for miss-understanding the law in their own favour.
