Hi all me once again, having worked out i can now save for the bike but may take a bit longer i have decided i require a bike which is going to keep me smiling for a couple of years and thus need something lighter than a 1000cc but rapid like one so a srad gsxr 750 or zx7r is on the cards but the question is which one, both are very nice bikes but which one is gonna give me the best bang for buck, the most confidence on the road and possibly the track? Which one for just general use?

Don't think either bike is lighter than a 1000cc bike of the last ten years, unless you get a GSXR750 from the last ten years... Even then its only a couple of KG's lighter than a GSXR1000.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

My brother (bacon) has a 7r and I'm sure he will be along shortly but they are really good value bikes, can pick up a very tidy one for less than £1500 or an ok one for just over a grand. They also ran the bike practically unchanged for many years so there should be plenty of parts around.

Plenty of grunt, stable, reliable and well made (bit of an agricultural feel to the engineering which tbh I really like). The biggest issues you might have is riding position as you will be very leant forward, front 6 pot calipers needing frequent stripping/cleaning, rusty OEM downpipes (all 90's bikes seem to have that issue) and the weight of the bike. The bike is heavy if you are used to 600s/400s.

No opinion of the SRADS tbh other than they look really cool and have a reputation as rust buckets.

well i was used to a sv650s which wasnt the lightest bike but certainly not the heaviest, just want a powerful bike i can confidently throw through the corners and it give me good feed back, the down pipe thing doesnt bother me as i will get a set of stainless pipes for it to cure the problem, whichever one i get i will keep for at least 3 years so needs to last that lol, i reckon i will have around the 2k mark to spend so hopefully find me a tidy example for that

ZX7 has the best front end, GSXR has a slightly more powerful motor.

I'm a little bias towards the ZX7, but the GSXR is still a good bike.

I'll have a ZX7 for sale at a good price in a few weeks too Wink

Hey, Donny has it pretty much spot on.

If you want something lighter than a thou but rapid like one, the zx7r isnt really it, its more of a torquey 600, that weighs over 200kg dry (about 20kg more than an srad).

They are reliable though, quick enough for the road, they handle superbly and are very stable. usually with a system and jet kit they can see 110-120bhp at the rear wheel. I've taken mine on track as well and it handled great, it will be going back on this year hopefully several times.

If you are into wheelies etc, the gsxr might be the better bet, lighter, bit more powerful etc. As far as looks go, they are both bikes from the 90's and both look sweet imo, the zx7r won it for me though.

Problem is with them being an older bike i cant find a local dealer who has one and who i could road test, i proberly wouldnt be able to tell the difference between them if i rode them, wheeling aint something im overally bothered about although im sure both will perform if i asked them too, just want a good, fast, reliable bike but not expencive to run, plus tbh my missus is worried about me having anything in the 1000cc area so this will keep her happy too, i would like to do a couple of track days but would defonatly have another set of fairings and also trailer the bike up to the track!!

Compared to the SV650 any modernish 600 IL4 sports bike will feel like a rocket. You sure you want/need a 750? In real terms they aren't going to be any faster than a good 600, there is extra power but also extra weight, as bacon said the main difference is the low down torque. If you want to throw it around then those bikes might feel a bit lardy. For £2k I'd look into CBR600s and zx-6Rs first, test ride them and if they aren't fast enough try a 750+ or learn to ride them better Thumbs Up .

Two hopes there mate...... Bob and....

I've just got a pair of 5 spoke magnesium Marchesini wheels for it, had them powdercoated green and are sitting in my car right now having just had the tyres put back on this lunch time! Very Happy

Front will be going on this afternoon, the rear I think I might have to play around with a little as I have a ZX10 swingarm and wheel in there, so might have to look at getting some spacers made for it to take the ZX7 wheel. Confused Question

To be honest, if I was going to sell the bike I wouldn't even know what price to put on it!? Laughing

well i had a go at a few 600's and tbh i would like the lower down torque of a 750, and i have found quite a few bargin zx7r's and the insurance is better on them than the 600's, think its defonatly what im going to be looking at getting come end of the year where i will get even more of a bargin!!!
