It's fairly quiet, the little snail shaped thing has a dynamo in it. The exhaust gas leaves the engine then runs the dynamo up to speed, it's a clever way of cutting the battery and charging circuit out of the electrics. Less to go wrong and saves a few kilos of weight as well. Saving weight is important to some people, obviously CHR15 is one of them, you can tell by the way he's stripped all the heavy anodising off the foot pegs.
