As above, we have an R6 at work belonging to a colleague that keeps cutting out, ussually when warm but sometimes runs longer than others. I have googled the problem and searched on here and still no joy, up to now we have replaced-fuel, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs and had carbs balanced. Runs mint when first started but after a while cuts out and when we start it again it wont rev, sometimes before 80d/c but at one point ran up to 100d/c, also we noticed a pipe from the airbox and carbs (I think a breather) with a T-piece so far down, one end of the T-piece blocked off (bodged) and the centre of it open (no pipe attached), we blocked the open part of the T-Piece and it run for longer but then cut out after 100dc, also we blew down the open T-piece and it spat fuel out the top of the carbs if this helps identify the pipe I'm talking about? theres no oil in water vice versa or anything to suggest the engine is at fault however the fuel pump does seem to surge at differant rates when the problem starts, any help on this greatly appreciated as the guy has his mod 2 soon and after a month of trying we still haven't been able to sort his bike. Will also add the bike was bought through auction and think this is the reason it went through as it looks like it's been played around with before he got it and has done this since he bought it (didn't know at the time as we only rode it back a very short distance) , Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

Bumped.
Now runs until fan cuts in at around 100dc, seems to be a misfire/flatspot when it starts playing up, will continue to run if we keep the revs on but dies and wont start once let off, if one of the coil packs is on the way out would it cause this problem when warm or would the bike run on 3 cylinders?

Sounds like a fuelling problem. Carb related issues I suspect.

Does it start with or without choke? Sounds from what you have described like its running really rich.

What colour were the plugs that came out?

Also could be cracked inlet rubbers, but I doubt it as your symptoms don't match that but might be worth checking anyway!

Hi thanks for reply, plugs were black, and the lad has had the new plugs out which have only been in a couple of days and they're black too, so may well be running rich. We have also noticed a small cloud of white smoke when revved hard. Choke is needed to start despite the very warm weather and not sure about inlet rubbers will check them tuesday.

We have a car emissions tester could we check it with that, and what numbers should we be looking for? also advice on adjustment would be appreciated.

If the airbox is piped wrong, it'll completely fuck up how the bike runs. check it's all done properly. The T piece you speak of is not bodged.

I'm getting my old R6 back for a few days to do some work on it sometime soon so i'll get a photo of the airbox plumbing for you, or if you're local I could do it for you because i've rebuilt the things enough times.

Other than that, the fuel pump could be fucking up as mine always sounded a constant tone unless i was really low on fuel.

The T-piece had a piece of pipe/then an old fuel filter/another piece of pipe/then a blanking cap so I assumed it had been bodged, should it be like this? If not will try and do a paint diagram. Pics would be awesome Thumbs Up Don't know wether your local I work in Doncaster, other than the pipe I mentioned every thing else is attached and looks to be in good condition

from what you are describing it sounds like the crank case breather has been disconnected.

I'm trying to find a workshop manual to see how it is supposed to be connected. Have you got a haynes manual for it?

I've searched for a while and can't seem to find a service manual so I'd suggest going to get a haynes manual and checking the airbox installation bit and seeing how the t piece should be connected, as this will cause running issues.

Also it does sound like its an excessively rich mixture, I would also remove the Carbs and check that all the needle clips and jet sizes are standard (no dynojet kit fitted etc). Also give them a good clean and check everything is working correctly.

In answer to the OP it is certainly not an electrical related issue.
