I have tried to fine the answers on the site so don’t hate me for being simple.
Two questions,
1. Where can I get a paddock stand from? Can i just go to my local bike dealer and get one or do I have to order one from some ware specialist. (for a Hornet.)
2. What oil do I put on the chain and how much? Will some ware like halfords do something called “chain oil”?
Thanks.

I use gold chain wax as it tends to stay on better. Also Big Bike Book have an offer on Chrome Paddock stands at £20.

Wurth High Performance Dry Chain Lube 500ml £6.98 is the one that won the recent MCN product test thingy.

I just use "Spray Grease", Chain Lube tends to stick everything else to the chain too.

Big can of the stuff for £4.99 - does the job.

To apply it, it's best to have someone push your bike forwards at a constant rate whilst you keep the spray still on the chain. It makes for entertaining video too.

Yeah but they don't look as cool as paddock stands that match the colour of your bike Smile

lol.

Yeah, but you get to be really smug when you need it up off the ground and you're in the middle of nowhere and your paddock stand's at home. Thumbs Up

As I've just bought a bike without a centre stand, I had to buy a paddock stand. I bought a front and rear from ebay for £60, delivered within 24 hours.

As for chain lube, I use PJ1 and find it to be v. good. Spray it on in the evening, by the morning the solvent has evaporated leaving the lube on the chain, and it doesn't get flung all over the back wheel.

In theory, but the smugness soon fades when you realise that your too weak to get it up on the centre stand though Mr. Green

It certainly is, I could get the 300kg+ VX800 up onto its centrestand with no probs, and I have an unusually small head.

I think the operating weight is somewhere in the region of 260kg (ish?) on the cx, like bendy says its all in the technique, lifting it from the back of the bike is almost impossible but lifting it from a above the stand (where there is a handy bar) and push down on the stand as you pull up, dead easy, it suprises me when i see grown men changing to crimson red (and grunting like they are giving birth to a coconut backwards) trying to get 150kg bikes on their stand.. Confused how odd...
As far as chain lube, i used the halfords own one and never had a problem (apart from the chain enclosure but thats a different story) the sprays are better as (after takeing them for a run to warm up the chain) its drawn into the chain, 3in1 oil for example will just fly off allover the road and probably be mostly gone after a few miles of ridding (or mounded up in previously mentioned enclosure leaving a really nasty manky mess to deal with).. aah shaft drive Very Happy

I went into the local Yam dealer yesterday for some chain lube. Guy behind the counter said, 'this is what the guys in the workshop wil put on it at your services, so if you want to use the same stuff, this is it!'

So I bought a can. And a chain lube remover for cleaning it beforehand too.

If it stop p*ssing it down with rain later I'll give it a proper clean and then do the chain too.

Now, where did I put my old toothbrush... Wink

Is that the one that goes on the swingarm pivots? Best you can get but not cheap at £100. Make sure the fairing isn't in the way before you buy one though, it is on my rs.

Got myself a Micron stand today, only there is one problem. One of the arms as two sets of holes drilled in it. One for the weal and one for the cup which holds the swing arm. The other side looks exactly the same but it doesn’t have any holes drilled in it! So I have no ware to put the weal of swing arm support.
I assume this is a dodgy stand and needs to go back rather than me just being thick.
