Will this work?

I have just obtained a 6v optimiser so I don't have to keep removing the battery.

As you can (hopefully) tell by the picture-
*the connection from Battery to the Rectifier has been 'bodged' with a Terminal block (or choc block connector) this means the wires are weak and keep breaking;

*The Optimiser has Ring terminals to connect to Battery;

*I know the NEG(-) end will go onto the 'Earthed' connection onto the frame,

*I have been told to chop the POS(+) ring end off and feed the wire into the Choc Block (this would mean that the wires for Battery/Rectifier/Optimiser would all be connected)

Does this mean then that I can simply attach the Ring terminal to the Rectifier instead of cutting it up? Confused

I believe they're designed just to fit directly on the battery posts. Why can you not do that?

There's absolutely no need to connect it directly to the battery - any decent earth point and convenient always live battery +ve wire will do. However I would remove the chocolate block as it's an automotive disaster waiting to happen - replace it with a properly made solder or crimped connection which joins the rectifier, battery and optimate feed.

There's no need, I agree, but as it's supplied with ring connectors fitted it's gotta be the easiest.

Lots of 6 volters don't have battery posts, just trailing tails with bullet connectors.

the battery was 'new' apparently, when I got the bike.
It has one wire (that has been cut substantially short!!) from the + which, I think was just twisted together with tape, linking the wire to the Rectifier - the choc block was put on as a quick fix.

It also has a wire with a Ring connector for the -/earth which is connected to the frame.

My thought was definitely getting rid of the choc block! - am I right in saying then that I could just crimp the wires from Battery/Rectifier and then put the Optimiser onto the bolt holding the Rectifier to the bike?

Or would that act as another Earth point?

What I would do is take the chocolate block connector OFF before it fails.

I would then replace it with either a double bullet connector attached to the rectifier (my preferance, these come with an insulating sleeve that goes over the top of them to prevent them shorting against the frame):
https://www.polevolt.co.uk/acatalog/1083-195.jpg

Or a piggy-back spade connector (harder to insulate these properly):
https://www.kitcarconsumables.co.uk/images/Red%20Piggy%20BAck%20Terminal.jpg

Then connect both the battery and the optimiser wires into it using the appropriate terminals.

If they are reasonably thin wires, you could also twist the optimiser +ve and rectifier wires together and crimp them both into the same terminal.

Do not attach the positive to the post on the rectifier, or anything that is in contact with the frame.

How about his -
*Connecting the Battery/Rectifier wire to the Piggy Back;
*the Rectifier/Battery wire to the 'Male' terminal that fits into the Piggy back female end;
*Connect the Optimiser POS terminal over the 'spade' of the piggy back - the spade going through the ring then insulating with tape etc.

Gives permanent connection to the battery and I don't have to chop the end of the Optimiser!
Have done a pic but PC being a fart and not letting me save it!
