Alright guys

Basically MCE sent me a letter just then to tell me to ring them as they are having trouble with a renewal price

I am 19 with 3 years NCB, insured a CBR600F with them last year for £500 tpft.

The guy turns around and tells me it's probably going to double because this year all insurance companies have decided they're not going to insure riders under the age of 21 on large capacity motorcycles, last year one insurer did it so everybody followed, this year no one is doing it.

Look on GoCompare and it has indeed doubled for everyone, most insurers wont insure me.

WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK.

Since when did insurers get together and decided that they hate under 21's? Since when am I who has rode every day for the last 3 and a half years, held my licence for 2 years and never had a single accident been more prone than someone who's brand new on a bike at 21?

This has really fucked me off because I am going to struggle to insure the ninja I'm getting, all because insurance companies have decided to blanket fuck us.

To top it off the guy was a cock on the phone, acting as if he was super fucking rider because he was older than me and I had no right to be on a 600.

Anyone else had similar experiences? I am not being forced onto a smaller capacity machine, considering fucking white lying on the insurance form now to get it down as much as possible because the cunts are dicking me over after another year of NCB.

License to print money, lol.

I'm on a TZR 125 (for the moment), 22 years old, and with Carole Nash it was £330 for the year last year.

When my renewal was up, so 1 years experience extra, a year older - £450.

A rise of nearly £150... for what?

So I shopped around, and after playing them off against each other, I got my original price of £330 again... if they can afford to charge me that now then they were just taking the piss before.

Have you tried compare the market and confused?

Sometimes it helps to ring the insurers direct and try barter them down.

I'm having no problems insuring the Triumph 900 or the GTR1000, and I'm 19, not sure what your problem is.

If companies collaborate to fix prices, that is illegal, as has been seen many times with companies getting fined huge amounts......

So what is it with insurance companies that they can do just that and get away with it Evil or Very Mad

All of them?! That's really cr@p. As I am now an old codger I still baulk at the cost of insurance (but do have a thou) but I really do sympathise when I hear the cost of insurance for under 21's.

Even on cars it's £1k+ to insure a 1 litre basic runaround, it's not like there's many opportunities to earn money at that age either to afford the silly amounts insurance companies are asking for.

Personally I would just insure with any old outfit, anywhere, TPO (or the cheapest you can find) and don't expect any assistance / pay back if anything happens. Just build up your NCB and bide your time.

(I paid £550 in 1989 to insure a Citroen CX 2.5Gti was TPO but it was the first car I owned after passing my test - doubt if I'd even find anyone to quote on that now in the same situation).

Try 3.5-4k - thats about 1/4 of my annual income for insurance alone, no way on earth I could afford to run a car.

Perhaps they've noted that young fellows tend to be a bit angry and excitable. Neutral

Right, channel that energy into something useful.

Write to them and tell them that they can either:

1) Provide you with a copy of that phone conversation as you are entitled to under the Data Protection Act, so that you can provide it to the Financial Services Ombudsman as evidence of illegal collusion and price fixing.

or

2) Quote you delirious.

Alternatively, since we've established that insurers are infamous villains, you could assume that you've just been lied to, and that there is an underwriter out there offering reasonable policies to under 21s. Go and find them, then give them your business. That's how the market works, or is supposed to work.

Just ring around. Don't take their crap. MCE since sponsoring BSB have turned into the company with the worst customer service I've ever had to deal with.

Try all of the price comparison websites, but enter your DoB in 1 day differently so that they don't fix prices based upon the price from the comparison site.

I'm happy to ring around every insurance company under the sun, but it's going to get boring very quickly if they all tell me the same thing.

Anyone know any good ones for younger riders?

I know it differs with the person and all but I think the bigger companies are just going to tell me to fuck off.

You'll get good customer service from Carol Nash and Bennets. Although expensive they'll be more open i imagine on the subject. MCE from what i've been told aren't great.

Carole Nash changed the terms and conditions of their "bespoke" policy (i.e. the uber cheap one where they provide the insurance under the name of their parent company, Groupama. They apparently share the office) some point last year to, yep, you guessed it, 21+ only.

If it wasn't for the fact the underwriting industry seems to be near-as-damn-it operating like a cartel, i'd tell you to just keep searching and someone out there will have seen the opportunity. I'd do that anyway, but not hold out much hope.

Under 21s from henceforth will be stuck with commuter bikes, it seems. Still better than trying to insurance ANY car though.

Wouldn't personally touch MCE or Bennett's, not even for TPO unless forced to by the price being THAT much lower. There's been too much bad news on the forums for a long time about them.

18 no NCB, (never been insured for a full year, switched bikes too quickly Laughing) £8000 claim on me from 2009.

£507 TPFT on the Hornet.

Look at what you'll priced on a naked, you'll see a considerable difference. (In my experience it was a 1/3 of what I was paying on my GSXR)

On the up side some of the benefits of using MCE and being a bike racing fan outweigh the crappy customer service Cool

I found H&R to be insultingly cheap through thebikeinsurer.co.uk . They were £300 cheaper than through H&R's own website. Go figure.

L-Jam...
Yes, Insurance Companies are tossers, they aren't human beings, or social workers, or anything, they are accountants.
Only reason they still employ biological organisms in the industry is becouse they are cheaper than computers, and don't argue back as much.
OK!?!
Now, you are a teenager still, and by NOW I would have thought you would have got the idea that a heck of a lot of shit in this world is about tempering your enthusiasm.... boring old farts like me.... its one of the few joys we have left, after becoming slaves to the bean counters, taking out a mortgage, to try and spoil the 'fun' for all those with more freedom and liberty to have it....

And you are trying to insure a vehicle with the performance of a Super-Car.......

THAT sounds like FAR too much fucking fun!

So, you ought to be penalised, and if you have the disposable income to 'waste' on such frivilouse irrelevances.... then it is the moral duty of the older generation to deprive you of your excess earnings!

Take it as a life lesson..... Shit rolls down hill..... trick is to clamber faster then the shit slides, or you end up right at the bottom covered in shit, with younger, less jaded individuals clambering over the top of you in their bid to get to the top of the dung heap!

Mate, I had exactly the same.

I looked last year at getting a Daytona 675, just for the hell of it. I couldn't actually afford one, but looked at insurance prices anyway.

Last year, this is 17, licence for 5 mins, 1 years ncb. They wanted £1200 TPFT

Looked this year, 2 years ncb, licence 1 year, full car licence, driving a car, etc. Cheapest I could find was £2500.

Sadly, as with everything there are a minority that reuin it for everyone. But in the case of under 25's, its more majority sadly.

Apparently 1 in 3 young drivers between the age of 17-25 write off a car in their first year of driving. That's crazy!!

I do think its a piss take though when they turn round and say that females can't have cheaper car insurance because that's sexists, but yet young drivers can be anally raped when it comes to getting insurance because that's not ageist is it?

Don't get me started on insurance. Sadly, there are no regulations what so ever and they can do whatever they like.

For those oldies on here who don't see the issue, on go compare the cheapest quote I can get for a 1.0l corsa at the moment is £3000 TPFT??

Also for the haters that say we are a liability, yeah, the statistics prove we crash cars and bikes, but what about the ones that don't? What about the people that use their bike on a regular basis and are mature and sensible, why should we get penalised ??

They dont.... becouse they are mature ans sensible, and don't go looking for large capacity hyper-bikes......

They choose GS500's and keep the restrictrs in like they are supposed to... go to BMF rallys and know all about shaft drives and old Matchless's.......

And the older generation can pat them on the back and say, "There you go, I told you you could STILL have fun without a hundred horse power, see!"

What's really annoying, is I can get a £5000 quote at my postcode on a TPO policy, but it drops to £1400 if I put in a postcode of a nice area. That's complete bollocks because it has no bearing at all on whether there would be a claim or not.

Statistics lie.

Which is why I have a Fazer...

I wouldn't exactly call a cbr600f a 'hyper-bike' Laughing

Also, so you think a middleage man, with a GSXR1000 as a 'fun' bike that goes out at the weekend purely to blat it about is less likely to have an accident than a young person who rides 40 miles each day commuting?

I would say anyone who uses their bike as a 'tool' not a 'toy' is less likely to have an accident.

But yeah, I can see your point. It's just things have moved on since the older generation were young. Smile

Please do enlighten me as to which insurer you are getting this quote from Shocked ?

At the end of the day no one wants to insure us because we are a 'liability'. Shame really.

Life is hard isn't it? When I was 19 I struggled to find the money for a bus to work let alone keep my bike on the road. We used to have a thing called "living within your means" I don't think it still exists. Wink

Still time moves on and now it costs me about £50 to insure a CBR6 fully comp, I had two other bikes on the policy but they were free to insure. It all balances out in the end.

Of course the other result of this will be a huge rise in the number of uninsured riders and drivers. Then the insurance companys will have another stick to hit the responsible young people with.......

mike, i'm sure that every statistic i have looked at about bike accidents, the majority of the accidents are caused by middle aged men having a midlife crisis and decide to hop on a 600+ after not riding in 20 years.

and yes i do know young riders do have their share of accidents.

also insurance companys are just dicks, and dont want to insure under 21's with out taking all their money first. for both cars and bigger bikes.

I have just canceled a policy with mce, £104 refund , which is fair enough, turns out they are going to send me a credit note with in the next 2 months, I then need to send them a letter back asking for that amount to be refunded back to the card it was issued on!

CUNTS!
