so i am due to take module 2

i am currently riding a cg125... great bike

but i have this other bike a honda cb550 f2 77 vintage

i know i would have to take it easy but would like to take it out every now and again when i have passed the test

if i am right when new many moons ago it had roughly 46 hp,

so question is..... is it possible/ how to restrict the bike to 33hp

take it no "kit" exists for a bike this age so what to do

Other 4 cylinder engines want approximately 15mm holes in each of 4 restrictor washers to get them down to 25kW/33bhp. Might as well start there and get on a dyno.

Hi

I suspect the CB550 uses slide carbs and they will probably not like the restrictor washers (which work by restricting air flow, and with CV carbs it is this airflow that moves the slide to adjust the mixture, rather than the slide just being connected directly to the throttle cable).

Some kind of throttle stop is probably required.

Note that the legal limit is 25kW "net power output". This is probably meant to be a crankshaft figure rather than a rear wheel figure.

All the best

Keith

cheers guys

throttle restrictor keeps coming up. plus a member on another forum has mentioned this as well

make a slightly longer inner cable so you cant fully open the throttle hence not open the carbs fully

wonder what insurance will make of this

thanks again

as far as i know there is no 'correct' legal way to restrict the bike. throttle stop is probably the easiest way.
a friend at the bike club has a throttle stop for his r6 which has been declared to his insurance company

Choose your insurance company well. Some may be awkward and ask for a dyno printout or even worse insist on the mythical restriction certificate.

Others wont ask at all, until claims time at least.

H&R are paperwork lovers, Carole Nash certainly aren't in my limited experience.

Would give you a horrible slack throttle.

With single slide carbs one trick is to put a length of pipe over the cable inner between the cap on the carb and the carb slide.

All the best

I've used a cable crimp on mine to restrict it. Works well so you could do that. Thumbs Up
