I have a horn problem on my EXC 125. Basically the horn button itself doesn't work. I have managed to get it working by making my own switch. Will it still pass an MOT (got one tomorrow) as an on/off switch rather then a button?

im pretty sure (although someone will prob tell me im wrong now iv said that Laughing ) that a switch is ok but it must be a switch that only works will being 'operated', ie not an on/off switch but rather a switch that flicks back to 'off' when released.........if that makes sense Laughing

If you have time before your MOT dismantle the horn switch and try to clean its contacts, might get it working again

I had a car that I had to get through an MOT. Due to some problem with the immobilisor the hooter didn't work and wasn't going to work without removing the immobilisor which would entail all sorts of misery.

I got an old bike horn, screwed it to the coolant bottle, ran one wire to the battery, then a wire from the other battery terminal into the cab to a home made plastic card switch mount with the words 'Bodge-omatic' written on it, then a wire back to the horn.
I think I slapped a fuse in there somewhere as well.

It passed the MOT no problem although a sticky front caliper was mentioned on the sheet attached.

Thanks for the replies. The bike has no battery so I had no option of running another horn. Also the switchgear is all sealed and riveted together and I dont have time to put it back together. I've found another switch which I think should be ok. Its a button style which can click on if you push hard but if you push it down normally it self releases.

If you can dissemble the new switch you should be able to stop it latching at all by removing or modifying (breaking off) a critical part. Thus it would only operate when you close the switch with pressure from your thumb.

I don't think you can get away with those anymore, the note has to be continuous.

A ball horn is continuous for as long as its being pressed in Wink lol

"A motor bicycle first used before 1 August 1973 may be fitted with a bulb horn."

"An audible warning device is usually an electrical horn. A horn is defined as an instrument, not being a bell, gong or siren, capable of giving audible and sufficient warning of the approach or position of a vehicle"

No bulb horns after '73, and definitely no bells at all!
