I had the day off today so I headed out for a ride. Ended up following the A44 all the way from Worcester to Aberystwyth; its a seriously good road, particularly once you go past Rhyader. Pie and chips on the seafront in the sunshine, perfect way to spend a day off Thumbs Up

But anyway, I digress. In one of the fast, open bits I came up to a pair of cars quite quickly. The second one was a big Volvo T5 type thing which had me on my toes anyway. He overtook the car in front and I followed, glimpsing the flashy lights in the back window. I held back a bit but then he got real move on, taking corners by very obviously going onto the other side of the road, presumably to take the best line. I stuck at 60-ish and he carried on, got half a mile in front and stopped driving like an arse and then dropped back to right in front of me, at 60-ish.

After 10 minutes I got bored and pulled over to have a fag. Carried on and didn't see him again after that.

Anybody had this happen to them? I know the unmarked bikes do it but I've never known it from a car.

If you find yourself in mid Wales, keep an eye out for a gold Volvo estate Wink

(Fully expecting a cool story bro pic for this but it might be of use to someone)

I am always scared of this myself, but if there's only one driver I go ahead. With two, I soemtimes just think nah, I'll hold back or go 5 MPH over max.

I got a scare off a brown volvo saloon today, was an 07 reg. anyways, i pulled out onto cotswold way and went to give it the beans and overtake this volvo doing 40 cause I was in a rush, as i dropped it one and pulled out blue lights appeared in the back and i decided to cancel the overtake Laughing
Thankfully he didnt stop and he took a different direction to me, meaning I could continue riding like a knobber as soon as he was gone.

Cheers
John

I wouldnt worry bout that, they dont go onto that estate unless theyve got a call, 99% of the cars that go down there are learners.

I HATE being followed closely by a car or bike and this undercover stuff makes it even worse!

They should be allowed to 'push' you to go faster THEN do you for speeding or whatever

Things to look out for:

Unmarked car and uniformed copper can make a traffic stop. Unmarked car and non-uniformed copper can try but it's against normal procedures and if you refuse to stop, they would have a hard time doing you for it so look for that shirt and tie folks. If they are on traffic duty, they will be in uniform.

I've never seen an unmarked traffic car that didn't have two rearview mirrors.

In Scotland, because of stricter corroboration requirements than they have in England, they almost always have two coppers in a traffic car. Fast car with two blokes in trying to instigate a race should immediately ring alarm bells.

OR maybe he was trying to goad the biker into gunning it so he could then nick him for 130+ like hapened to a guy I know.

Went to court and the onboard video clearly showed the bike riding normally then responding to the cop's baiting. Rider got let off a ban and copped a fine and 5 points.

To be fair, if you're someone who gets into a race on the road, you deserve to get caught. They made the choice to put their foot down, or twist their wrist...

I'm sure it happens as you describe - just suggesting an alternative scenario that I'm pretty sure happens a lot more often.

For example - my scenario has happened to me dozens, if not hundreds, of times - but I've never once been in a car baiting people into speeding.

I did a stupid thing last year, which was a lesson lernt.
I was on the M275 heading from Southampton to Portsmouth (I did a post) and this Cop biker joined at Hedge End....
I sat behind him at 70, (7am in morning no traffic)
He went up to 80, so I went up to 80, he went up to 90, I went up to 90.. Then he slowed to 60, which I had to over take - then pulled me Laughing
Asked why I broke the speed limit - I didnt really want to say, that he broke the limit, I was just following... Gave me a few words and off he went.....
Wont be doing that again Razz

You failed the test.

I've been let off for doing double the speed limit largely because I managed to stop before I actually got to the speed trap. The copper had been winding himself up to lecture me about "What if I was a child running out into the road?" and was somewhat taken aback when I threw the anchor out and stopped some distance short of him.

AHA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA.

Pull the other one, it's got, fookin', knobs on!

Options:-

Pull over, have a fag, eat a pie, stare into space for 5 minutes, whatever.
Turn at next available junction and explore that road for 5 mins.
Pull over and go back the way you came for 5 mins, then resume your journey.

Don't give them the opportunity, everyone knows they're "at it"!

If you've got a forward facing camera, video the twunts then "Youtube" it.
We all know what can happen when "spirited antics" are published on "Youtube". Rolling Eyes

Police did this to my mate. sitting at 75 on the A1 with him behind them, and they kept slowing down. doing about 60, he just stayed behind them.

They pulled him over in the next town and had a check over the bike. their excuse was 'you didn't overtake us'.

The twat was egging me to go faster on a bike that was obviously struggling to get near 60mph, let alone anything over!

I would slow to 50 on any sort of incline LOL
