PostPosted: 14:32 - 14 Jun 2011    Post subject: 'The Attitude Test' (the po po) + Exhaust Packing Reply with quote

Okay, so I was out earlier with a mate and a police car was behind us. I was driving slow as my exhaust is quite loud. We went arond this mini roundabout and as we exited he pulled us. I looked back and he was pointing at my mate. So I parked up, stopped the bike and got off. Didnt think it was me he was after so I left my lid on and was gonna sit on the wall.

It was me he wanted after all! So as he is talking to me (with my lid on) he is trying to make me guess why he pulled us. My mate said he heard his indicator relay going mental so he thought it was that. Turns out it was my exhaust is too loud and that I didnt look over my shoulder.

He said that I had pretty much failed the 'attitude' test. He said I wasn't looking over my shoulder and there could have been someone over taking me. I didnt take my helmet off and my exhaust is obnoxiously loud. Well I wasn't being ignorant but why would I look, its a 1 lane road, I was in the right side of the lane with my mate behind me and I could hear where he was. Didn't take my helmet off cos I thought he was after my mate and I can't really help my exhaust. I didn't say it to him and was polite, calling him sir and that, so why the hell did I fail the 'test'? Then he was creaming my mates ass I was like wtf?!

So he took me round to the front of his car and I was like here we go! He opened up the bonnet and was like look at all of this metal, imagine if that hit you... So I just agreed. He proceeded to say he won't give me a ticket and won't even ask my name so just go on my way. Thanks for wasting my time. What a cock!

How the hell did I fail the test, other than not take off my helmet? He said you should get off your bike, stop the engine, take off your helmet and face me. I did everything of that apart from lid because he was pointing at him before... Knobhead Middle Finger

On a side note, my exhaust is loud because when we rebuilt it we connected the fuel and oil hoses round the wrong way. After we realised the mistake tried to get as much oil out of the spark plug hole and then bumped it about 20 times. Eventually it started. Smoke everywhere and it sounded like a gp bike Laughing

Its gotten quiter since then but still loud. I get louds of compliments on how nice it sounds and I think it sounds nice too! Doesn't sound like a 50 at all. Not tinny, deep sound and rasps Smile

I think repacking it would sort it as there is probably oil in the packing in there currently, making it damp and rendering it pretty much useless on the silencer front. Now, would I lose the sound if I repacked it? Not so bothered about the loudness but the actual depth and the raspiness. Or shall I just keep it until I get a ticket? Laughing

Also where/what would I buy some exhaust wadding?

Thanks for reading Thumbs Up

sorry about the essay

So you've got an illegal exhaust and got let off?

Sounds like a not-too-bad result to me.

Sure, he moaned at you. But then if he'd been 'doing his job', he'd have presumably not moaned, just given you a fine for the exhaust.

Apparently something to with he aint a traffic officer? He said one would have definately. Im sort of glad with the result, just pissed off with the 'attitude test' fail Laughing

Hetz, totally agree!

Paddy I had a standard (have) one, I bought this one because the inside of the front pipe has bits of metal rattling around inside, I presume deflector baffles rotted/rusted as there is nothing in the can whatsoever!

Assuming you are on a Derbi Senda on L plates.

L-platers are a nuisance in general. Not all, but most.
This was probably his problem with you.

If you was let off without a fine, I wouldn't be ranting.
They dont need to be traffic to fine you on an exhaust.

I think it is ignorant not to take your helmet off when talking to people I'm not suprised he had a moan if it would have started with the whole imagine that hitting you bullshit I would have gone off on one.

My normal response is "do you have a bike licence?" "I love it when people who have never ridden a bike talk to be about riding safely."

I'd say your attitude does stink.

What's wrong with some manners? Take your lid off, be polite, it might be the difference between getting done and getting let off.

Contrary to popular BCF opinion, the cops aren't there just to make your life miserable. You probably did something questionable (but aren't admitting it or didn't even realise), you have a noisy exhaust, so he thought he'd 'have a word'. Suck it up, jeezus you'd think he'd has his cock up you the amount you're moaning. Rolling Eyes

Are you sure it doesn't sound like a tractor because your plug is loose and about to become a petrol tank seeking missile?

Why are you judging me? You don't know me. I outlined why he said my attitude was shit and everyone else seems to think it was fine, but you.

I was polite, did everything he wanted me to apart from take my lid off as I didnt realise he even wanted to speak to me cos I was gonna sit on the wall as he pointed at my mate. When he started talking to me I apologised about my helmet...

Chris, I was close, but at the end of the day its derestricted with non declared mods and a noisy exhaust so I didnt wanna get done.

Binge, about the fine, thats what I though. As for 50's I agree. I ride with lots of people who are your usual chavvy lot. Me and that particular mate are actually decent guys, we wear all the gear so we are not like that anyway. Thing is though he pulled out of the station and followed us for about 200m so he obviously was looking for something :/

To be honest I'd rather get done for something that is a £60 fine than cop a load of attitude out of principle.

I would, personally. Just I can't really afford it. If I had a job then I would have. Then definately failed his shitty test haha.

He said I would have to prove I had had it sorted within 14 days too?

For riding other than in accordance with your licence; for riding without valid insurance; for failing to notify DVLA of changes to vehicle registration catagory; hence riding a vehicle that does not conform to C&U regs....
Having your moped taken off you and crushed, having the licence you have not yet earned taken off you for a number of years, and an awful lot of money you probably dont have......

Hmmmmmmm......

I can see why you wouldn't want to be properly 'Done'......

So.. up to you really... if you want to carry on riding at risk, be prepared for the tugs you will undoubtedly get for looking like the scoffle law teenager, easy meat 'collar' you ARE... and ride like the angels you prey to you don't get cought, and take your hat orr, stand like you were meeting your maker, and look the penitant quire boy when challenged.....

OF

Get fucking LEGAL.....

Which is when you can look the plod in the eye, be as cocky as you like, and DARE him, from a possition of safety to FIND something to nick you for or to eff-off.....

Your call really.... BUT, sorry, you admit, on open forum, to riding VERY illegally, on a bike you dont have a licence for, hence dont have insurance for, and which is not in accordance with its registration & C&U regs.......

And then fuckling RANT that a coppa has the audacity to do his fucking JOB!

WORSE.... do his job NICELY and let you the fuck off?!?!?!?

Yeah, you HAVE failed thee attitude test, me thinks!

ignoring all the parts where he was a complete cock to you, not doing shoulder checks even in that situation on your test will get you either a major or a minor depending on the situation

Well there's your answer really isn't it, sounds like common sense and decency to me.

Also if hes picked up on a lack of shoulder checks, this is something you ought to pay some consideration to and improve on.

Over shoulder checks are called lifesavers for a reason.

You'll learn that being in the right lane, knowing your mate is behind you and sticking on the limit means absolutely stuff all in the big wide world

Maybe mr gsi wanted to get past as he was in a hurry to get parked up in mcdonalds for the night and was going to pass you whether you liked it or not, a lifesaver could mean the difference between a bonneting and getting home intact

I've had a full licence 20 plus years, ride serious lots of miles and I still, every maneuver, junction, roundabout, stop and whenever else i feel like it I look around, i know whats going on, i know who is where and I have managed, with a good dose of luck thrown in to stay alive and even to not have had an off for 22 years.

People telling you to look is not having a go, they're trying to keep you alive.

A dangerous game to play when you remember these are 'people'. Very easy to 'find' something that isn't there.

Guaranteed there is something that they can do you for, such as "Causing harm and/or annoyance with a motor vehicle".

I've had a couple of fairly obnoxious bikes now and I've never really had any trouble from the police over them, then again both bikes were big enough to trundle around town on tickover which helps.

Whilst he may well have been arguably a bit harsh with his comments, he does have a point on the lifesavers though, not only do they give you a clearer idea of what's going on around you, it gives more attentive drivers a good clue as to what you are likely to do next Thumbs Up

I know the risks and I think it is worth it, just the same as millions do across the country. I don't ride like the normal chavvy 16 year old. I would almost consider myself a biker, just trying to ride like a normal person, yet restricted by stupid laws. Okay maybe not stupid because obviously slower bikes save lives but I feel as though having a restricted bike is dangerous, as do many other people on this forum, having read around a lot.

I'm not boasting that I didn't do a shoulder check, just that he mentioned it. How many of us ride like we are on our test every day? You would have no fun! I do shoulder checks when I feel it is appropriate. Of course I should do them more but shouldn't you do lots of things more. None of those things I mentioned are a valid excuse for not doing the checks, just reasons why I didnt need to. As you said, someone could have easily come up and around me and sent me 6 feet under.

Fine.... then don't BITCH about it when you get the inevitable tugg, worse, when you get the inevitable tug and get let off with no more than a flea in your ear, rather than your effin bike confiscated!

JEEZ!

Be like an armed robber, moaning that he got a parking ticket for parking his getaway van on the double yellow outside the Post Office while he did a Blag!
