Got the ignition on my resto Honda Vision sorted (joined the black and red wires) and have had it running kinda- will run like the carbs blocked, boggs down and wont idle. Cleaned carb, fitted inline fuel filter and tried a freshly serviced spare carb but but no luck. Now it will only run if I pour a bit of petrol in the intake and once thats gone it cuts out again.

Could it be a vacume leak somewhere seems like its not sucking in the petrol to keep running although the float bowl is full? I noticed an O-ring split on the cold start device, could this cause this problem since its the only thing left I think, but the unit's connection seems pretty tight in the hole anyway?

Also would the poor running be likely fuel starvation or weak spark? It didnt have the power to pull me up a slight hill or could this be caused by an ignition coil (the spark didnt seem that great) but it does fire the second fuel is pumped into the intake?

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

yes I've done that, starting to do my head in lol. Even ran a fuel line from a lemonade bottle but the carb flooded- guess the float wasnt strong enough.

I've got it running and running well Smile It took what must have been about 75 kicks, stopping every now and again for air and let the carb settle. I put the airbox back on and refitted the fan and cover and its running great but still wont idle (think the engine may have been on its way to seizure so the more its run the better it runs and it will nearly idle but it feels like its holding back- gearbox drag or something.

Anyways, if I let it cut out then it will iether start first kick or will take another 70 odd kicks to get it going again- any ideas? got a new coil on the way so maybe a healthier spark will help. Still not sure if that autochoke works or not, since I've only got the two minimum wires for the ignition connected and not sure what makes this work- do you think it would start better if I got the starter motor working?

the plug looks fine although I'm going to go and get a new one in the morning- nice tan colour. I wouldnt be surprised if it was low on compression, its not smokey at all but I've notice the cylinder and head appear to have been sealed with that blue instant gasket paste along with a poorly shaped gasket (can see where they cut around the edge). But I thought if they were leaking their would be a hissing noise or smoke?

The cylinder itself appears very rusty and gets amazingly hot after only a couple of minutes running, I've got blisters to prove after lightly touching it whilst adjusting the carb. Sure my bike's cylinder doesnt get that hot.
