Hi
Normally the arrow points towards the exhaust port. Honda mentioned an "IN" mark on the piston, which I presume is the word IN stamped onto the piston.
If you look carefully at the piston you will probably find that the gudgeon pin is not central. Check this on the old and new piston.
The holes in the piston skirt affect the timing of the inlet port.
All the best

Problem sorted now,thanks keith !
Had a little chat to ian (sold me the parts )about it and the arrow points to the exhaust.
The reason why my old piston had the grooves cut in the back acording to ian is because its an orignal one, where as the new one is a aftermarket replacement.
Still okay though !
Cant wait to fire her up tomorrow ! that is if it starts ! ____________________ Ducati 916,white framed corse replica https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=239309
