Going away with the missus, CBA camping.

Any recommendations on B&B's and decent roads?

Cheers

In August? When the accommodation is full of other people's children and the roads are full of caravans, campervans or family cars with so many duvets in them that they can't see out of the windows? Confused

My recommendation is that you go somewhere else....... or hang on and go in September......

(but if you must, we went to Ravenglass which is a bit out of the way, and stayed in a pub called the Holly House Hotel which was cheap but good)

The west coast is always a good bet, a lot cheaper than the National Park, less crowded and the people generally a little friendlier, not that they are unfriendly in the Lakes. The Lake District is relatively close for day trips and there's plenty to see and do on the west coast as well.

Apart from the road from Westhaven towards Barrow.

I honestly have never been anywhere so isolated, miles and miles of nothing.

Can thoroughly recommend this place https://www.pinesingleton.com/ have stayed there twice now. Bike parking can be arranged in their large locked garage.

On the edge of the Dales and only a few miles, on good roads, from the Lake District.

I stayed in this place 3 years ago for 3 nights in September and it was pretty good, although did have to park the bike on the street. Short walk into the town, bike friendly owners and good breakfasts - and no doilies in sight!

I assume you mean Whitehaven to Barrow. It is indeed quite a longish stretch of road, but not without interest, and of course it depends what your interests are, but I feel the Sellafield Visitor Centre is always good value for all age groups, as is the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway. Muncaster Castle is on that route, and the Coachmans Quarters at Muncaster Castle is a rather tasty looking B&B.
Also, whilst I would agree parts of the road are a little isolated, it's a not half bad bit of tarmac for bikes, no cameras and not a lot of Plod!
