So it sprouted an oil leak once i got it running again, and when i went to check the bolt the thing had a big crack down it.

So that's me without a bike for a month till i can afford another one, and i'll have to beg borrow and steal to afford petrol in the car or busses.

Perfect!

Anyway, this is how it looks now, till i can afford a new fairing set.

or take the bus lol Thumbs Up

Yeah it was.

Need to get a new sump now, i'd rather not risk it with chemical metal and the like, then dumping the oil all over the rear tyre at 70+.

Bus it is Sad

B&Q do some chemical metal with a temp of 150 degrees, it's worked on one of my sump plugs after I stripped the thread out of the bottom of the engine, sticks like shit to a blanket...

This is on a bolt and washer though, how you'd get on with it being a gaping crack ( snigger ) I have no idea Dunc...

i'd cracked before now, it's when i went to take it off that it broke right off.

It was an oil leak that pointed it out to me.

Don't mess about with chemical metal, get a new sump. Once you've properly prepped the area (sump off), glued the bit back on with chemical metal, and retapped the thread you probably will have spent the price of a second hand sump on glue and tools. Not many cheap tap and die sets come with M12+ taps.

Plus, the chemical metal will fail horribly anyway.

I don't think you would necessarily need to re-tap it Rob?

And if you did, you wouldn't need a full set, just a single M12 finishing tap wouldn't set you back more than a quadruple Jack Daniels at a reasonably priced bar.

Personally I would carefully cut some marks in the cracked surfaces to provide additional surface area, prep it with whatever you have to hand (WD40, soap, hot water) and then try liquid metal. I'd be surprised if it doesn't work but clearly the problem will be not re-cracking it when you torque the bolt back up. I'd be tempted to replace the crush washer with an O-Ring.

Whilst you do this insert an M12 thread into the hole so that the liquid metal can't muck the threads up, if you remove it a bit before the metal sets it will come out properly later.

If you still have the bit, and prep it properly, lumiweld will be stronger than the original part. Bit more of a fiddle to use than epoxy though.

What it needs is a dowty washer. Bonded rubber seal in a metal washer. Just needs to be nipped up to be totally oil tight so no more over-torquing.

That's creepy, I did exactly the same thing recently except I hit my sump on a kerb!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_8515.jpg

Probably not much help but I was able to source a second hand sump at a good price by emailing every single breaker on ebay that listed any part for my bike (and some that didn't, I was a bit desperate!) and by putting the feelers out on the owners club forum, basically anywhere that stocked any part for my bike or where other people might know where to find one.

It's not like you've got a rare bike so just keep trawling ebay/breakers and you'll find a cheap one soon enough Thumbs Up
