i need to swap the ignition on my zx7r cause some little wankers cut up my old one. the new one i bought is attached to a top yoke so would it be easier to try and swap over the top yokes or to take out the old ignition and put the new one in given i have no idea how to get these bastarding shear head screws out and its starting to drive me up the wall Mad

please help.

If the top yoke's in similar nick, I'd swap them, otherwise you'll have to drill out the security bolts and replace them with standard ones, clearly making it less secure for the next time.

You could always replace them with security bolts. They're not expensive. Although by the time someone has gone to the effort of removing the top yoke, I think the bike's gone anyway.

I agree though, replacing the whole top yoke would be easier. You're going to have to take it off anyway.

Defiantly easier to replace the yoke, i had to swap my barrel to a new yoke the other day and drilling those stupid bolts out is a PITA. Your gonna need a Torx security screwdriver (one with the little hole in the middle) to attach it to the old loom though.

Undo the top yoke pinch bolts, take off the stem nut and you can either loosen the clipon pinch bolts and slide them off the forks at the same time as the yoke or if have access you can remove the bolts that fasten the clipons to the underside of the yoke (M6 allen iirc) and just remove the yoke.

Don't forget, steering to the right. You'll be scratching your head wondering why it isn't moving otherwise.

It's a few mm bigger than my biggest socket which is 32mm so 34mm sounds right. I usually just use a massive pipe wrench.
