I don't mean for packing bearings etc.

Anyone used the stuff on their bikes for rust proofing so putting a smear on here and there? Surely its the ultimate ACF50 for everything but the engine (or maybe even that as well)?

Was wondering if anyone does and what their thoughts are.

I've seen me take the plastics off a bike and spray the entire thing with waxoyl for the winter.

Thing is, all the crap sticks to it so it looks hell of a grubby by the end of the winter. A brush over with paraffin and a hose down in the spring and you realise what a good job it did of keeping the rust off.

I work in the marine industry and can assure you there is no quick cure for corrosion except stainless steel (316 grade) and well applied paint.

1/2" thick coat of hammerite will do the trick.

I have a fair amount of chrome so that won't work.

Of course you're right but there are methods to try to prevent it especially during the winter.

Brilliant don't mind a grubby bike in the Winter, I suppose Waxoyl is a lot like the Marine Grease? Maybe slightly thinner.

Do you put it on the engine? I've recently been using ACF 50 but find that its a little thin and runny, I was hoping for something a little thicker with more stick, so more lasting hence the Marine Grease.

Does it do a good job protecting bolts and such?

Silicone grease does a good job over winter it's clear, waterproof, doesn't affect plastic and rubber and not as messy as a lot of greases.
You can get it in tubs( Marley make and others) in the pipework sections of DIY places as it's used as a pipe rubber seal lubricant. There's also a Silicone thick oil type that Wickes stock under their their own brand name, again in the pipe section.

I'll put waxoyl on anything but the brakes and tyres. It'll burn off the exhaust.

It's been about for years, people always used to do the underside of their car with it and squirt it up the sills. It's a waxy liquid that kind of half sets when it's on the metal. I thin it slightly with paraffin and apply it with a low pressure spray gun.

There's also an ACF50 Corrosion Block grease.

I used to use Waxoyl every year until I waited too long to apply it to my CBR600 one year and the salt got to it. I couldn’t be bothered after that because the damage was done.

Waxoyl works well although you do build up an amazing crust as crap sticks to it when the engine is warm. I bought one of their 2.5l pressure tins and a pump/spray lance to apply it the last time I used it. That worked ok, but I tried to apply it when the ambient temperature was only just above freezing and, despite warming the tin in hot water, the spray was a bit too gloopy. Never thought of thinning it…

It takes some elbow grease to wash it off in the spring too. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Yep I've seen it but it is incredibly expensive and probably in the end the same as Marine Grease.

I'm torn between the two now, the waxoyl and the marine grease!

I'd go for Waxoyl too, both the big can of oily stuff you spray in the hard to get places and inside the frame if possible, and there is also a Waxoyl underbody seal which is good for areas that are more exposed and get chipped (on cars it's used inside of the wings).
