Suzuki GZ125 oil and filter change

Hey guys and girls

Thought I'd change the oil filter and oil this evening, as I'm not sure when it was done last with the previous owner - and basic service is always something I've done on my cars when I get first get them.

The manual I found talks about replacing the o-rings on the filter (the manual is for a GZ250, so maybe that's why?) - yet the new filter doesn't come with any o-rings?

I assume the whole process is pretty straight forward? Any pointers for a bike-mechnic noob?

Oil filters normally have the O ring as part of the filter.

Look at the open part, should see a black rubber circle on it. You need to put a small dab of oil on that ring before you fit it to help it seal.

Other than that follow the manual, is very simple Thumbs Up .

Tips:
Warm up the bike well first, don't drop the sump plug into the oil pan, the oil can be hot so don;'t burn yourself, place something on the ground to catch spills, remove the old filter using a tool if you have one (chain type ones are my favourite, can just stab a screwdriver through it and use that to turn it though), check the oil level a few times after it has been filled (including after running it for a bit), use a new crush washer, put the filter on hand tight only and DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE SUMP PLUG!!!!

I am pretty sure the o ring is between the oil filter cover and the engine. Doesn't need replacing unless damaged/leaking. Be careful not to pinch it when replacing oil filter cover.

My oil filter is a pissy little thing, I discovered today when I bought one Laughing Nothing at all like the one pictured above (which looks the same as a car one).

Ah, I thought there might be something unusual with it but took a guess.

Filter aside, very simple mate - get the oil out, seal it up and get the oil back in.

hi there i have the suzuki service manual for gz125 and the oil filter does indeed have o rings that need replaced with every oil change .......they are in the housing of the oil cover cap and inside the case that holds the oil filter so they are not fitted to the filter but the parts that hold the filter in place............this is the case for every model as my manual covers 1998 x reg - k6 2006 models

i am in the process of changing my oil on my gz125 but the window is black and dosent clear once ridden to show the oil level
so it need's cleaning a bit of a pisser.
because when i fill up with oil i know i put the right amount in 950 ml with new filter and 800ml without changing filter
but if i cant get it clean it will bug me
