Have you tried going to a motor-factors shop and buying some kind of oil additive that cleans your engine on the inside as you run it?

A few miles on clean oil should sort it. I would keep away from engine flushes and the like.

The window will be black if the oil is ancient, new oil might clean it. If it doesn't, then take off the side casing and clean it with a solvent.

The oil change interval will be about 2000 miles on that engine BTW, so if you've been riding it for a few months without a service and the window was black when you got it, its probably well overdue a service.

A lady friend had her Suzuki GS125 serviced by a bike shop.On the first day back to work after having had the bike serviced she had oil dripping out of the airbox drain pipe. She took it back to the shop that had performed the service and they said that it needed a rebore as the worn piston rings were causing crankcase ventilation problems and so was causing the oil to pump up into the airbox.

When she brought it around for me for a second opinion, the first thing that we looked for was an oil level in the window. It was dark black, even after a few short miles, which showed that the oilwas doing its job. When we tilted the bike over to the left,an oil level appeared in the window. We drained off nearly 500ml of excess oil and squeezed out the air filter, which was of the foam type.

Suffice to say she was not pleased with the bike shop.

I suggest that if you drain the oil when it is hot,it will drain more thoroughly. If a clear window appears once drained, only add sufficient to go to the half way marker.Soak the filter with some fresh engine oil before installation.Run the engine for a short time to help to circulate the new oil, then top up to the prescribed level.

yeah when you have a bike i think it's really important to be able to do service's at least on your own bike... i have spent a fortune on tools and learning all the time.. my last error was changing my brake pads the ancient dust seal shrunk onto the piston and seized an easy 5 min job turned into a call out for a mobile mechanic and and it took him an hour just to free the piston.
luckly he was really experienced ..cheap.. and a great help now i know everything about my brakes and how to bleed them would never get that from a garage or dealership.
i was thinking if i removed the crank case to clean the oil window i would probably have to replace the gasket and so would have to make shure i had one just to change the oil and filter..
just going to see how this oil/filter change goes first

Did the old oil stink of petrol?

If a bike starts making it's own oil (i.e. increasing the volume) it usually means petrol is getting in, i.e. from a fuel leak in a carb leaking into the bores.

It could well just be that the moron before stuck too much oil in though Surprised .

If I was doing the job, I would get the side casing off and clean the window while I'm doing the oil change. I would be doing a full service anyway.

A gasket from suzuki will leave you change from £20, or a full pattern gasket set will cost about £25, and is worth having on the shelf.

Service parts for that bike are cheap. Do the rest of a basic service while you're at it - new air filter, new spark plug, wiggle the wheels to check the bearings, wiggle the forks to check the head bearing, and have a good look at your brakes, suspension and tyres to look for leaks, holes and wear.

Don't waste money on super duper oil. A gallon of comma 10W40 will cost you a tenner and do 4 oil changes.
