Does the CBF use an old CBR engine by any chance? I had a similar problem on my CBR and I ended up changing the speed sensor.
There will be a service connector somewhere that you can bridge and read the FI code. It will be something along the lines of speed sensor or wiring fault if it is what I think it is.
The speed sensor is a little electromagnetic pickup in the crankcase, honda can't seem to make them (or cam chain tensioners) for toffee. If access is good then swapping them is VERY easy.
I wrote a how to when I changed mine, most of it is model specific but the last section is applicable.
