Well, turns out my MOT expired 6 days ago, hadn't realised and had been out for a 3 hour ride in that time. Anyhow, apparantly my bike is unsafe without it's letter from the local gestapo office.

So looking at the back of my bt-016 it's a bit fucked, still got life on but not really what might be classed as MOT passing life. The front is 'getting there' but isn't as bad.

Recently for tyres i've had BT-014s x2, BT-015s x1 (came on the 600rr) and then x4 sets of BT-016s (two fronts, 4 rears).

I've always wondered what other tyres would be like but i've generally wimped out and stuck with what i knew. So now i've decided to go for Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2s.

Getting them fitted tomorrow, along with getting the MOT and a quick oil change done.

Kinda looking forward to finding out if they're better/worse/just plain different.

If they're worse I dont think i'll mind as i wont have missed out on much, if they're miles better then i'll be pissed off that i've stuck with bridgestones for years. Ho hum, will know tomorrow.

Now Patiently Awaiting NAFTT (Not another Fucking Tyre Thread) or Cool Story Bro pics.

Not really a quesiton.. More of a I'm swapping from BT016s, have used the 014 and 015 and will drop by soon to compare to the Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2.

Just noticed on a few of the tyre threads people ask what tyres people have used/preferred on bikes so thought i'd post it.

I think it's a personal thing anyway, but the info maybe useful.

I dont think much of this is very structured though, I was sat in a meeting typing the above!

How do you rate the BT016's compared to all the others?

I've always preferred michelins, maybe just the profile that I get on with but I've found they always last as well. Heard good things about qualifiers as well tho so I'm thinking of trying those in the near future. It's always a 'risk' to try new tyres, but you may be pleasantly surprised, like I was when I moved over from bridgestone's to michelins.

I found the 016s lasted longer, i guess because it's a multi-compound tyre (i.e. middle is harder, sides are softer). I think the rear has three compounds though, hard, soft, super soft on the edge. I think the front is soft/super soft on the edge.

I've preferred the 016s, it made cornering seem easier in general. They seemed very good at lean, certainly better than me. If I didn't have a fear of dropping my bike (money, not pain) or someone else was paying for it, it'd have been easy to push way past where i've went.

The worst thing i've found is that after a 1000 or so miles they start to feel more vague in certain circumstances.

An example would be you could accelerate to the point where the front wheel is lifting and it wouldnt want to slip but put it on it's side on anything other than a perfect surface and it could feel quite vague. Even on new surfaces you couldnt always get a decent idea of grip, it'd feel bad but mentally I thought it'd go further.

My main reason for trying another tyre is just to see the difference between them on the same bike, i'm tempted to go for a Michellen or Dunlop next time as well.

I'd recommend the 016 still, i'm just doing this to see what the others are like.

The bikes in the shop now and the weather is good so I should get some kind of hoon on it today.

Managed to get a few hundred miles on them now. On my bike, they rock, much much more feel than the bridgestones. Grip so far seems excellent.

I've been out so far in sun and today on damp country lanes, all has worked nicely with what seems like a lot of grip. I'm being a bit cautious at the moment until i'm used to them more but they seem very good.

the 016 lasted 5 minutes on my bike! they were alright in the wet but on the road i like to use dunlop roadsmarts, they are a very good tyre. theres not much point in a supersport tyre on the road imo

Are the roadsmarts a good tyre then? I have them on my thundercat, but unfortunately the rear is squared off quite badly (only had the bike for about 300 miles) and it's hard to work out if the tyres are actually any good or not as it's a bit like falling off a shelf when you turn in for a corner.

Looking to replace the rear one, but know absolutely nothing about bike tyres!
