Kevlar jeans

Hi guys.

I'm new here, and to riding. I've got a pair of armoured textiles with thermal lining that I wear whenever I've been out on the bike with my other half - typically we'd make big trips of it, and the biking was the main focus, so I've been happy wearing those.

Now though I've got my own 125 that I want to start using about town, to go to work, things like that. The textiles are a bit cumbersome for such things and I'm not keen on just wearing normal jeans or so though maybe that would be acceptable? So I wonder about kevlar jeans as a compromise.

Is this a dumb idea? Does anyone have any other suggestions? Are kevlar jeans any good? Happy to spend on them if they'll do what I'm asking!

Nope, its a good idea. Looking for some myself but more after a pair of dark kevlar cargo pants as I'm using Jeans with an armoured jacket and boots. The trousers would be great for winter but your talking mega sweaty gonads in a bit of heat, not comfortable at all.

Draggin jeans and Hood were recommended to me but cant find what I like. After knee and hip protection as well ideally.

I usually wear kevlar jeans, and a leather jacket to ride. Sometimes I wear the matching leather trousers to the jacket, but it needs to be cold, or all my kevlar jeans exceptionally grubby.

Hood and draggin are the best known brands, however there are cheaper brands around if you look - just make sure you're happy with the quality (cheap or expensive brand) before you trust your legs to them .

I was wearing armoured textile trousers, and after a while I have grown to hate them! I bought some Red Route jeans a few weeks back, and they have been brilliant. Look identical to an ordinary pair of jeans but with Kevlar and knee armour. Red Route also do cargo trousers.

I was also pleased that they have a zip section on the back to attach to your jacket.

Well worth investing in a pair.

for work, (assuming you can't wear jeans there) you might be better off with your textiles (or a slightly looser pair) that way you can wear them over your kecks. Unless you wear skirts, then it won't work (suppose you could hoick it right up but I imagine it wouldn't be too comfy.)

I wear a hospital uniform so I can't wear it to work, always need to change there for infection control reasons. My locker isn't really big enough to house my textiles though

The only jeans I would buy are sartsos! I've crashed twice in my Sartso Killers and they've held fine. The fabric is very abrasion resistant - tested it on the knees and hips when I came off doing <30mph. It would have been useful if i added in the armour, but it's not really that comfortable when you're doing your day to day thing with the chicken fillets in!

Draggin, I'd give them a miss. They don't have nowhere near as good a coverage as the Sartsos. The kevlar liner finishes just above your knee! I managed to clip mine against a thorn on the back of the thigh, just above my knee and i pretty much had to superglue the damn jean back together. The quality of the fabric is poor - These are the draggin bikers.

Here's what I have to say about them

If i have a spare £100 knocking about, I'd get another set of Sartsos or give Hood a try (ND4 or K7), since they have been very well rated... Hood are only mail order, so you can't try them at a store for size.

My Sartsos have done it all - I got to work in them (and change into something more acceptable in the office), I've been to festivals in them and been surfing and mosh pitting no problems. They get very abused on friday nights when I'm on the dancefloor in Camden/Kings Cross where it's not really a dancefloor but more of a mosh pit.

I've hooned in them, and more importantly, I've crashed in them. I trust them so much that it's primarily what I wear on my bike now - Race jacket, Sartsos and skate shoes - proper skater look! My boss asks me where I park my BMX in the morning! ]

Put it this way, I have some very tarty and expensive alpinestar leathers (2 sets) hanging in my wardrobe, as well as some pretty decent goretex textiles. In the last 6 or so months, 95% of the times I ride in the jeans and jacket combo, even on 250+ mile trips. I've only worn my race suit ONCE in the last 3 months and I regularly go on hoons!

You can find them cheaper if you look around. I have a couple of jackets, blue+black.
I also have a few pairs of Draggin jeans, 32 waist, around a size 12, but my ultraviolet ones seem larger than the green camo or the stingers.

Spidi make some pretty unusual 'jeans'. Look like they have been designed rather than 'add kevlar here, add armour there' type approach.

I just ordered a pair of these black kevlar cargo pants from Australian bikers via Amazon and got free delivery because I'm an Amazon Prime subscriber.

Thought they seemed a good price and also have armour as standard in hips and knees.

Can't compare them to Draggin Jeans as I've not seen/tried those on but I'll let you know what these seem like.

Thanks for all the tips, guys. I do already have a top box on my bike but it would be a bit of a pain to go into the locker room, change, then go back to the bike to deposit my gear. With kevlar jeans so well-rated I'm convinced they're a good way to go.

So I ventured out to find some. I was really disappointed that the Sartso Killers I tried were an absolutely horrible fit in the ladies' version I usually buy one of two sizes, and both were too tight at the front and too loose at the back, whilst being really restrictive elsewhere in the leg, too.

Tried Red Route, and both of the two sizes I usually wear were absolutely HUGE, with the next one down being too tight. Found a lone pair of RSTs, tried them on, super comfy and with knee armour already installed. I know it's not one of the brands mentioned here but they're the only ones that I felt happy with so that's what I've got

I have a pair of hood ND4 jeans. With delivery and a set of knee pads they were £120ish. Worth every penny though. Thick well made denim jeans with loads of their kevlar stuff in the ass and front of the leg well past the knee. Comfortable too, even with the knee armour I wear them to work and then all day at work.


I would HIGHLY recommend hood jeans.

Hood are typically high cut, not especially fashionable looking but about as solid and well made as it gets, my ye olde pair of concept had no trouble shrugging off the wear from misc crash and leg down action on a mini moto earlier in the year.

As with Tot I'm pretty impressed with my Sartsos, the denim is a lot more modern but they still retain that nice solid quality, something Draggin never seemed to be able to achieve, they come quite long in the leg too giving you plenty of options to adjust them to suit you properly. My only criticism here is that the waist is arguably cut a little low for the sake of fashion rather than safety.

My lindstrads are comfy but frankly I wouldn't want to crash in them, lots of loose seams everywhere and the thread in general seems weak.

RST's are a good make Sprite so don't worry about that....it's pointless buying the most expensive if you can't get it to fit you.

I bought a pair of Draggin' because they meet the CE standard (which I think means they last 4 secs) and although other jeans might meet the standard none have been tested so you don't know.

I fitted Forcefield armour with velcro at hip and knee, and to be honest for £150 all in they have been a bit of a treat especially as the weather has meant I've worn them around 10 times since spring, the rest of the time I wear my textiles.

But, I knew I wasn't going to wear them every day and as I'd come into some money I thought I'd treat myself. I'd been meaning to buy them for a few years, but just couldn't justify the expense for the amount of use I knew I'd get out of them.

sartso's nearly everyday, only time i dont wear them is when going out for a meal or something "posh" or when they are in the wash, i got mine spring time, and they have faded at the knees as i used them when working on bikes kneeling down but none of the stitching has alter or got worse.

I've got the Bikers Paradise jeans in black, which feature knee and hip protection, and I find to be very comfortable. About 100 quid including the armour.
