Hey guys, tried to start my Bros up this morning for work, started after a bit of effort (often does this on a cold morning anyway) idled for a while then cut out. Wouldnt start again, turns over but doesnt take, thought it might be a fuel problem so i filled her up, tried again after getting home from work. Theres now a wierd "phut phut phut" noise coming from the engine, managed to get her started, but she isnt running at all right. Bearing in mind she ran fine yesterday, can anyone help? Im new to bikes and not great with the mechanics, but it seems to me like a dead cylinder, maybe something to do with the spark plug, as its a v-twin and the noise seems to be coming from one cylinder. Thanks for any help.

PS just had the spark plug from the cylinder i think is dodgy out, looks okay to me. ran the bike for a while, one cylinder stayed cold, although header coming out of it was warm

Front left plug as you sit on the bike. Change it.

both cylinders get hot dosen't sound healthy, my money situation is tight atm but first chance i get im doing piston + rings so i get to inspect all then.

Why jump in at the deep end, compression check and new plugs.

Check the choke cable!

It's a "Y" shape type cable; as in one cable becomes two any they are prone to failing.
This happened on mine before resulting on one carb being stuck on full choke and flooding one the front cylinder.
Naturally the problem became worse as the engine warmed.

Could be something else but hey it's an easy one to check and rule out.

Same cable on the Africa Twin. I removed mine altogether and blanked off the chokes a few years ago (you have to fit the plungers and springs first), never had any problems since.

Make sure you use the genuine Honda tool and it's not too bad. Wemoto sell it. It's a box spanner with an 8mm hex bar attached on a swivel joint. I use that with an 8mm ratchet spanner and have no problems removing or refitting the deep plugs on Africa Twins, Transalps and Deauvilles.
