Hi all, I think it's time to do my first engine oil change.

Help!..I don't even know where to start. I've got a paddock stand, tools and there was some oil thrown in by the seller.

If it makes a difference, it's late 2007, so fuel injection. I'd also like to sort the air filter, what do I need to do to the bike to fit a k&n filter?

Thanks in advance

Dont add a K&N, it costs more money than you need to spend...and you go no faster.

17mm ring spanner/socket on the underside of the bike. Can be done on the side stand. When you refill, I believe its 1litre... remember to put the sump plug back in... preferably a new crush washer. Go careful to undo and do it up the right way.

Dont over tighten it on the way back in... They are quite easy to bugger on this bike.

Test the oil level by letting the bike sit idling for a minute after the oil change. Unscrew the dipstick, clean it off and with the bike on a flat level and standing upright put the dipstick back in and screw it in, unscrew it again and check the oil is on the xxxx area of the dipstick between the top and bottom is ideal. Mine tends to sit more near the top end of the dipstick xxxx's Thumbs Up

Cheers, that sounds much easier than I thought.

Do you know if there is a torque setting? Or am I just looking to stop when it gets tight?

As said K & N = Waste of time.

Take the bike for a spin before doing the oil change to get the engine oil nice and hot. Let it settle for around 10 mins and then leave it drain out for at least 20 mins. This just ensures that you get all the shit out of the bottom of the sump. Your new oil stays cleaner for longer and you get a happy engine Thumbs Up

When it feels tight it probably is....don't push it any further

I try not to use something that requires huge force using a torque wrench. Its an oil drain plug so just do it up by hand and then tighten 1/8th a turn or there about so long its not going to come undone.

I did use a torque wrench on my own bike set to the correct setting in the manual and strip the threads! argghhhhhh!
