Hi guys,

I've recently been headhunted to work for another company.
Part of the interview / screening process involved one of these Online Mindset tests.
Now I've never done one of these before, and after the first 30 or so questions, I quickly realized that it was pretty much a massive repeat of a small batch of questions, just asked in a different manor.
I am assuming this is to detect if you are lying about the answers.

I answered it with the answers which were instinctive, as apposed to the ones I thought were 'right'.
In some cases, I felt I was putting myself down a little, but at least the test has come through as truthful as possible.

Can any of you guys explain the answers at all? I have Google'd it but the opinions are very varied.

The job I am going for is a Recruitment Consultant role, so it is based closely around targets, sales, and money. They seem to be the 3 key areas of recruitment. Laughing
Money motivated, tenacious people... aha!

Anyway, the answers are in 3 areas, then a total figure.
What do these numbers mean? Should they be higher, or lower?

My results were:

Global
319

Good
291

Grit
336

Total
946

Is this good/bad/average? Confused

Cheers guys.

Ben

Those scores probably mean that you are either a rapist or a peedo.

Expect a knock on the door from the coppers in the next few days.

Hi

The scoring system is much more subjective than you might think. The emphasis can shift depending on the type of job, organisation or field of work.

In my experience you could be strong in any one or more of the 3G arenas based upon the circumstances you are facing at the time.

If you are looking at HR and recruitment then an employer might hope to see strengths in Good, Global and Grit in that order.

In systems or matrix management they might expect or prefer Global, Grit and Good.

With this test, it is usual for the interview panel to look for links to support your scoring within your CV. This is not always a reliable strategy because a lot would depend on interpretation.

Either way these tests are only tools. I am sure that you are already aware that it is the actual chance to show your true skills set. I would have expected the panelists to have undertaken the same or a similar test at some point in time, just for reference, if nothing else.

I'll bet that everyone that does this type of test will not necessarily accept and the results without question. If you google mind tools or Business balls and play around with some of the tests, you will be able to influence the results quite easily. Especially Belbins or the Edisk ones.

Good luck Thumbs Up

All the best
Mike

Interesting.
I work in recruitment already, and cant say I've ever had to do this, or even heard of it before. I've probably led quite a sheltered path in the industry so far. Laughing
In the same respect, I have never had to do a Mindset test before. I've heard of them, but never understood the results.
The website says I can find out if I pay a tenner. aha! No chance. I'll just ask the Director tomorrow when I meet him at my interview.

Done 'properly' Belbin is quite interesting. I found it genuinely helpful when my team shrunk after some of my FTAs took up new jobs; it sort of made everyone think about their place in the team. I'm not really one for management bollocks, I've recently been through some tedium about that with the CMI but that was one of the things I took from it that actually worked.

Hi

@ Slacker24seven

Yes, I have also had to endure the CMI levels 5 and 7. I am not a fan of the culture of Management being applied as a means of trying to make the intrinsically insecure feel a bit more secure.
I think that these type of tests can be good.

I just prefer it when they are used for constructive purpose rather than as another hoop to jump through Thumbs Up

Mike, I am a mere level 4 padawan. I don't think I'll be taking it any further than that for a while. I agree wholeheartedly though Wink

Not a specific explanation of your scores, but I've had to do a fair number of these tests over the years, and they have largely given the same assessment of my personality/approach each time.

I just go at them like you did - instinctively. The way they phrase some q's it is difficult to come to a 'reasoned' conclusion (that is the way they are designed), so better to just go with it and see what comes out the end.

I went for my interview yesterday.
Went really well, got invited back for a second interview and an assessment day.
The results I got were fairly normal. They are rated between 100 and 500, or something along those lines.

He wasnt that bothered about the 'good' score, he scored just over 100.
Grit and Global are what he is interested in, both of which I 'passed', in his words.
