I heard about this in mcn a couple of months ago now, it sounds good on that link of yours. Will do great in trials etc. I want to know how it will affect sports bikes and things, should find out soon though

tests on an R1 1000cc supersport road bike have shown an incredible speed differential on wet tarmac - tests at the tight Swedish Karlskoga roadracing circuit showed the 2-trac-fitted R1 to offer a whopping five second per lap advantage over a standard machine when the circuit was wet.

Blimey.

Although if its that good why are the motogp bikes not already using it?

Hi

Probably the extra weight, and the fact that with the front wheel in the air it will still only be one wheel drive.

All the best

Yammy put this (or another 2wd) bike into the Dakar and came 8th overall I think. From what i heard it is not going to be used in track racing in the near future, just off road.

Also I believe it is going to be used on mid-range bikes to inspire confidence like ABS.

Formula 1 is RWD, World rally cars are 4wd, I think bikes will follow this patten.

On a road bike wouldn't you also get problems when leaning the bike over, as the front and rear wheels have different profiles and the wheels would effectively spin at different rates and confuse it.

Thats the main reason why traction control hasn't been fitted to bikes.

Does't matter so much on dirt bikes as its rare to get both wheels in traction at the same time.

IF it had been fitted to a KTM it would of come 1st, not 8th!

Cars have the some problem with inside and outside wheels, thats why they have differentials. I expect these bikes will have a similar system.

Hi

Can see where he is coming from. Different makes of tyres of the same nominal size have profiles that vary so the rolling radius will change differently as the bike leans over.

As mentioned cars do have the same problem. Not only between the inner and outer wheels but also between front and rear wheels. When a car is cornering the front wheels travel faster than the rear wheels as they are going round a slightly wider radius circle.

All the best

Keith

Years ago I saw a 2 wheel drive motorbike on tv.

It was a motorcross bike and had a really strange setup with a chain going down from the handlebars.

AFAIK, the system is only supposed to transfer 30% of the power from the rear wheel to the front, so its not like you'll get problems with cornering really. braking can produce about 55bhp worth of power (according to RiDE a little while ago) so 40 odd BHP probably won't be a problem.

I'd love to have a go! Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
