driving out of Henley-on-Thames on Wednesday evening on a Triumph possibly a Sprint 955i index starting DX04.

Was it really necessary to overtake on blind bends 3 times in an attempt to pull away from me and prove what a great rider you were with your training or to drive at 55mph+ in 40mph limits through the small village especially when you couldn't filter for shit as soon as you hit some non-moving traffic?
Also I have to wonder do the IAM teach you that trainers are acceptable forms of footwear to wear on motorcycles?

What is the point of the IAM if their members drive so dangerously?

You should see how our local Police park their cars. Trained, maybe. Implemented, occasionally.

That's the problem with IAM, once you've passed the test there's no retest (same with statutory driving / riding test). It's down to the individual, not the training. Just one of the minority (hopefully) who rides like a tw@t.

I think all car / bike entitlement should only be for a limited period. 10 years? Then a retest should be compulsory to maintain entitlement. This *might* filter out some of the numpties and leave the roads clear for the decent drivers / riders (and the illegal ones Wink ).

IAM types annoy me, police worshippers annoy me.

It doesent matter how much training you have had from other self righteous sam browne types, you are mortal like the rest of us.

At least the fast road riders (incidentally the ones who IAM/police look down on as squids) know they are riding fast and keep their wits about them rather than assuming...

On the IAM observed ride that I did, I was impressed by the use they made of the road. It was a good demonstration that sitting in the middle of the lane is just habit. Some (perhaps many) IAM observers very likely are wannabe Plod, trainers or DSA examiners, but the couple that I rode with weren't. They were very nice, constructive, friendly, light hearted, the chap was an ex track racer.

However, when following them, they were often clearly not riding within their ability to stop on their own side of the road in the distance that they could see to be clear. And if you don't do that, then you're just riding your luck, and you can shut up forever about road safety.

Like the Plod drivers that I know (personally), I do expect there's a group of 'advanced' riders who think that their bit of paper makes them a safe rider, because they've shown that they know what to do. No. Doing it, riding safely, right now, this instant, makes you a safe rider, right now, this instant.

Aaaanyway, here's a video of the IAM planning their Continental Jaunt. I think that about sums it up. Wink

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Not unless he had his full set of textiles and his helmet stolen as well.

The IAM lot seem to be similar to the TA lot. You always know who they are because they HAVE to tell you within a minute of meeting them, then they look at you as if waiting for a round of applause or something. Laughing

What makes an IAM rider any better than an intelligent, observant skilled/experienced rider - apart from a piece of paper? Load of bollox IMO...

Reminds me of my uncle I dont like. He's 30 years older than me, works in a motorcycle garage yet thinks hes far superior to me in everyway when it comes to motorcycles. Basically because its "his thing". When I turned up earlier this year on my fzr1000 to see my nan - not a word. He also owns a BMW "round the world" jobby.

Those are the kind of people i despise. Stuck up, self centered. So in short - i agree.
