I am currently living in London and heard about this motorbike ride out at Chelsea Bridge on Sat 5th November. It is a ride out organised by a road safety campaign called ROADHUG.ORG,

Should be a good meeting as ACE CAFE are partnering the ride out and are providing free breakfast. I managed to get hold of a link and have attached a copy if people are interested. A group of me and my mates are going to be attending.

I have also attached a copy of the release they uploaded to the website so that everyone can find out more about the campaign.

ROADHUG.ORG ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT 4% DECREASE IN MOTORCYCLE AND SCOOTER CASUALTIES ACROSS GREATER LONDON

- ROADHUG.ORG AIMS TO FURTHER REDUCE THE CAPITAL’S ACCIDENT RATE AMONGST VULNERABLE ROAD USERS –

The road safety initiative ROADHUG.ORG is set to launch its latest campaign following recent figures from Transport for London which shows a 4% London-wide decrease in casualties involving motorcycles and scooters.
Instigated by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, ROADHUG.ORG focuses on educating vulnerable road users (VRUs), within the capital, aiming at increasing awareness of road safety resulting in a decreased rate of London-wide road casualties.
The recent statistics from Transport for London which, based on figures from 2010, show that casualty rates amongst powered two-wheeled road users have decreased by 4%. With results being partly attributed to road-safety campaigns, ROADHUG.ORG is set to employ a 'Helmet On, Radar On' slogan across its latest initiative with particular focus on motorcycle and scooter riders.
The campaign is due to run for four weeks from Monday 7th November and will incorporate a viral video to bring key messaging to life, as well as various advertising and PR elements helping to increase awareness of road safety.
Commenting on the campaign, Councillor Nick Paget-Brown, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “Motorcyclists and scooter riders are much more vulnerable on the road than car and lorry drivers and they need to be constantly aware of what is happening on the road. I hope that as many people as possible will take up the opportunity offered by Roadhug.org and give themselves the best chance to enjoy their journey on the road in safety.”
To introduce the campaign, ROADHUG.ORG is hosting an open event on Chelsea Bridge, London, for two-wheeled riders. With support from local motorcycle and scooter groups such as the Ace Cafe and LondonBikers. ROADHUG.ORG invites riders to join them for breakfast at the iconic location on Saturday 5th November at 10:30am. Members from Bikesafe, the Police's national further training course, will also be in attendance.

That's nice dear. But no need to shout in your title (considered a bit rude), nor to post the same thing in several different sections.

Please only post the same thing in a single section Thumbs Up.

I have been researching the campaign as I was keen to get a group of us to go to the ride out.

It sounds like a big event with Ace Cafe, London Biker and many other London Dealerships supporting the day.

The CAMPAIGN is helping to decrease levels of accidents on motorcycles with the London area.

As a biker within London I am keen to support this.

The proof is mentioned in the Press Release attached in the first comment. This press release is going out in several biking magazines, papers and London papers this week prior to the event.

D- for effort.

I did take the time to read the attached PDF. It's a poster basically, with nothing useful at all.

Poor show Thumbs Down.

Sorry for the lack of detail attached.

I have therefore attached a copy of the Latest Press Release which hopefully explains the day in more detail where we hope to gain your support.

That still doesn't contain much by way of pertinent information. Where has this 4% number come from? My comment wasn't calling for more press releases - I was hoping to see some actual sources of information, as opposed to regurgitated advertising.

First off, due you represent 'roadhug' or anything related to it?

Secondly, as above; nothing explains this '4%' claim.
How do you know that the 4% reduction is related to this organisation?
What is the deviation over years? 4% sounds too low to be statistically significant to me.

The 4% decrease in motorcycle accidents within the greater London area has come from the Londonwide casualty data from Transport for London for 2010. This is a comparison of the information gathered from 2009 and 2010 calculated into a percentage which equaled the 4% decrease in casualties.

From this success linked with such campaigns as 'Roadhug' and THINK! we are making people more aware of the decisions that they make whilst on the road.

I've heard of THINK!, but this is the first time I've ever encountered this RoadHug thing*, so claiming that it's a significant contributor to a diminished RTA incidence is a bit spurious, isn't it? Where have your RoadHug people been advertising? Is it just in Kensington and Chelsea? In which case, it should be a proportionally lower percentage, given that there are 32 boroughs in Greater London. So realistically, it can lay claim to no more than 0.125% of that 4%.

It's a nice idea and all that, but they should really lay off the fanfare a bit.

*I do ride into Kensington and Chelsea quite frequently, visiting in-laws.

Have you got the data for the previous 10 years and the variation over those years?

Basically, could you answer the questions I've already asked, please?

First off, do you represent 'roadhug' or anything related to it?

Secondly, as above; nothing explains this '4%' claim.
How do you know that the 4% reduction is related to this organisation?

As discussed the 4% decrease in motorcycle accidents is a percentage for the greater London area. Each individual borough has its own percentage some having a larger decrease than others. This discussed 4% is a sum average of all 32 boroughs within London.

The comparison is related to the 28889 accidents within greater London with 4337 accidents related to two wheeled users. This is a 4% decrease of last years stats.

The roadhug.org campaign is aiming to help promote these stats to make the roads safer for road users. Not saying that this percentage is because of roadhug.

The confusion came because you pointed us towards the 'press release' (which I now realise is the second post, not the attachment, explaining that bit of confusion.)

Still not explained if you are involved with this organisation and represent them.

Nor is it explained how this campaign which hasn't been launched yet is helping to decrease the levels of accidents?

Well, of course it isn't, if the scheme is only going to be launched this weekend.
