I would guess around 2-2.5K (nothing to base that on, just a guess). Though not a great choice for a first bike, have you rode before?

thats about right, mine is an 02 plate 23,000 miles, 3 owners, very clean, brand new tyres, taxed and mot.

got mine from a dealer, so I guess it would have been cheaper if it was a private sale.

You can get a B1H for £2.5k, thats a little younger and a lot, lot better.

Going straight onto a 600 sportsbike isn't a great idea IMO. Particularly as we are getting towards the time when the roads get wet, cold and icy. What exactly do you want your bike for? A weekend toy? Track days? Commuting? Touring? Posing? Tell us a bit more first! Wink

I'm glad you're confident about your test, it does really help. But having driven a car & ridden bikes I can't help but think how very different the two of them are - you're pretty much learning from scratch again except this time you're better at reading the road/knowing road laws. So just bear that in mind Thumbs Up

As for the bike price I've no idea, but I can't help but sway with Slacker24 Smile

Welcome to BCF by the way Smile

That generation of Kawasaki is OK but a bit of a poor relation to the R6 as a sports bike and the CBRF as an all rounder. The B1H onwards are much improved, albeit sportier. If you look hard, it's possible to find a tidy 04/05 CBR600F Sport for £2500.

On that basis, I'd say one of those is worth maybe £2000 if it were mint, but I wouldn't suggest much more than £1500 for that example. Ruined exhaust indicates that a previous owner crashed it and/or had no taste whatsoever. The bodged fairing indicates that it's definitely been crashed. First thing I'd be doing if I were interested is an HPI check.

My friend has offered me this bike for £2000.
£1000 up front then £100 a month.
he had it reserved at 2600 on ebay but it only got to 1800.
Hes had it for 2 years without any crash's.

Im not sure if i should get it now after some of your guys comments.

is it worth me paying 2k for it?

HPI check it. You don't have to spend a fortune. Just text the registration to 83600 and for £3 you'll get a couple of texts back stating whether the bike has ever been written off, imported, colour changed, or whether it has outstanding finance.

If it comes back clean, then maybe £1800 at best. If not, then you should look to pay considerably less.

ZX6R was the first road bike to leave me 'cold' after riding one.
It is an excellent bike, BUT it is as far from newbie frendly as you can get. And it is that 'kind' of bike that is the biggest killer of DAS candidates in thier first two years after passing a test.

They are very,. very competant sports bikes, but ALL they deliver is speed, and no drama.

As an experienced and somewhat expert rider, it left me cold becouse it was completely undemanding to ride, and ride fast, and consequently completely unrewarding.

For a newbie; it delivers adrenaline rush in abundance; but like herione; after that initial rush, takes more and more speed to get the same buzz, and that bike will deliver the speed to keep giving the buzz... right up to the point you OD, were you find that its competance ends at a very abrupt edge with no warning, when you are going very, very fast.

For a newbie; get something softer, and less focused. A bike that gives more by doing less, and lets you experience more of what bikes feel like when they AREN'T so composed, and rather than letting you 'get away' with being an idiot, flattering your riding and making you feel like a riding god, right to the point it kills you, has some feed-back that tells you went you aren't being so clever, and 'scares' you in a different way, when you are going a lot slower, and there is a much bigger margin between it giving a little grumble and actually spitting you off.

Fazer; Bandit; something slightly sportier, an SV, maybe a VFR or even a CBR600F.... incrementally more 'sporty' but sporty street bike, not 'super-sport' bike.

You will get a lot more from it; and bikes like that have more all round capability, and let you explore other ways of having fun on a bike, other than just going quick down twisty roads and trying not to fall off.

This generation of ZX-6R is the softer choice, and much closer to the CBR600F than it is a 'super sport' bike (e.g. CBR600RR).

It's group 14 or 15 - get some insurance quotes before doing anything else.

Aye, the B1H is the asbo-super-nutter. Hence why it'll be my next bike.

I have looked at insurance quotes and can get it for just less than £500 third party only which seems fine to me.

I want a decent bike for my first bike to last me years and im not a speed nut no more like i used to be when i first passed my car test.

Its just that my friend is selling it and i know its been well looked after.

And i will be giving my car to my other half because she has her car test soon

I would suggest that rather than jumping on the first thing that comes along you try a few first. I viewed/sat on/test rode near enough 20 bikes before I bought mine. Just search this section for 'first big bike' for a shortlist.

Ebay is quite often a good indicator of the true market value of something. I would suggest that if the Ebay masses reckon its worth £1800 then they're about right, particularly at this time of year when bike prices are falling through the floor.

I'd have to suggest that you try a few bikes first too.
The CBR600RR was the first bike that I tried right after passing my DAS, and even after 15+ years driving experience and passing the DAS my first time, the 600RR was too much for me at the time...
Yes it was exciting to ride - but bordering on a scary amount of acceleration compared to almost any car I'd ever driven. I decided to go down the '500 route until I'd built up my experience, and for me that was the best route.
Just my Penny Coin Penny Coin

Don't jump into buying the first bike you can afford, I did that twice (I should have learnt the first time) and it bit me in the arse. Look at the prices of second hand bikes (try biketrader and other similar websites) and go and look at a bunch of bikes before you make your decision. I would be wary of buying a bike before you have even done your DAS. You can now be fined for owning a bike with no insurance/MOT unless it is SORNed and there are very few insurance companies who will provide cover on a bigger bike if you don't have the correct entitlement.

Also, get the TPFT cover as a minimum but also get FC quotes as they can sometimes work out cheaper.

Here's a few to give you an idea of price...
cheaper ones will usually be older, higher mileage, or poorer cosmetically, private sales will usually be cheaper than dealer sales

Then it's not the bike for you anyway. It might not be the hard edged hooligan's ZX6, but it's still a ZX6, and 90% of what they 'do' is just offer 'fast'.

If you dont WANT fast, then you will enjoy a bike like a Bandit or Fazer, that are still more than credibly 'quick' a lot more.

Meanwhile, £2K for an £1800 bike, is not a bargain, and sounds like its doing your mate more of a favour than he's doing you.

While buying a bike that's not 'your thing' just because by some-one elses standards values and aspirations it's a 'bargain' is rather perverse.

It would be like me buying a set of Carbon fibre Golf-Pro golf clubs, becouse a mate was trading up to titanium..... JUST becouse I knew that they were 'supposed' to be 'good'....

I dont play golf, and even if I fancied ruining a good walk in the country trying to loose a plastic ball in a rabbit hole, I know that a set of unforgiving 'pro' clubs tuned for precision play, wouldn't do me, a complete numpty that can barely hit a ball straight if I stand on a garden rake, would not be the best things for me to try learning with!

Has only got to sorn it, then he is fine Wink

But OP, you might find that a bit of a handful. I picked up a GS500 a few years ago to start big biking, went to a Daytona 600 about 8 months later, felt a lot better doing that. Thumbs Up
