Did an oil (and filter) change ... decided to 'go cheap' and get some Halfords own brand oil.
£27 ... £27!!!!
I am sure the chepo stuff used to be ~£17 ...
I am not sure it is a particularly good deal at £27 ...
£27 ... £27!!
CBA to go anywhere else so bought it anyway {grumble grumble grumble}
Anyway!
At ~£35 for an oil and filter change*, at what point does it become not economically viable to do oil changes?
i.e. how long will an engine keep running/going if you never changed the oil? (assuming oil is not consumed/kept topped up).
*admittedly it didn't use ALL the oil in one hit!!! but it did use the fatter part ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

I just put some £6 or £7 stuff in mine from Morrison's, recommended by Paddy
Only covered 20-30 miles since doing it so far, but really having no problems with it. ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

I've been using a 250cc scoot a lot recently.
An oil change is 1.2 litres of oil.
£12 for a 5l semi synth carlube or autocare oil works me out at £2.50 per oil change since it's got rinse out gauze filter.
Makes a change from putting 4 litres in a pan euro and an oil filter ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? I was surprised how much the halfords oil was as well, I'm sure it used to be less and they gave you free screwdrivers
Anyway I thought I'd check in my local Yamaha dealer on the way home and I got 4L of Motorex oil for £23. I haven't really herd much about it but it seems more of a reputable brand then halfords. ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj

Nothing wrong with Halfords oil but £26.99 is a bit steep.
Changed my oil on 16th October and only paid £21.59 from Halfords(already had filter). So its gone up fair bit.
Next time look online, you can get good oil and filter details for less
than £26.99 delivered.
Also just done oil change on wifes KA, paid £26.99 for the Halfords oil but got a free £7.99 inspection torch, which I needed so not too bad.
Yes you paid for it but oil is your engines life blood and I for one wouldn't put crap oil in any of my vehicles. That said just because it is cheap doesn't always mean its not any good. ____________________ Current Bike: 2004 Suzuki Bandit 600S

Seem to remember being told that HG oil was Motul oil rebadged. ____________________ Kwak Z750R Black Edition
